View Full Version : What's the + of having independent chirch
Well, I'm Ruling the Balkans but I want something new and I'll convert my church to ortodox indipendent ;) What's advantage of being ortodox indipendent :)
IMO it only has advantages:
you get a books bonus, you don't suffer the morale penalty Orthodox dependent do
and the only negative is that you don't recieve the small money bonus
also when you declare your church independent you declare war on Byzantia/Nicaea
Also your relations with other Orthodox kingdoms will drop.
Also, you have to keep spaces in your courtyard both for the patriarch and for his successor.

One of the biggest drawbacks of independent orthodox is that you have to constantly draw new clerics, which is an open door for enemy spies. One has to plan very carefully ahead so you have enough time to weed out the spies until you get a loyal cleric.
Gladly patriarchs somehow manage to keep themselves in a good shape and live a rather long life. ;)

I know this thread is ancient, but other advantages of having a patriarch:
1) the patriarch can convert provinces (unlike the Catholic Pope, who is seated in Rome and therefore cannot).
2) the patriarch converts provinces rapidly (more so than usual).
And if there's a library or university in the town the patriarch is governing, it's book income will increase greatly(in my case from 5 to 25) :)

and his chance of success is much higher than of normal 5* cleric (not speaking about the "useless" pope
