View Full Version : LAG & Memory Leak (Renegades' Hideout)

On Renegades, the game always starts out nice and smooth. Over time, however, it begins to lag, particularly when you get to the last boss.

Lag on its own is one thing, but the real problem is that although all player actions are slow to take, and overall game speed is slowed down, the ships appear to continue to lose health at the same rate. This means that you have to beat the level within a set period of time, or the lag makes it impossible to complete, as you can't keep a ship up long enough to do any damage to the big bad dude. Others have experienced the same problem.

The players I've talked to about it all have experienced a particular problem as well -- a rampant memory leak. This is a problem in general for the game, but a restart once every few maps usually takes care of the problem. It's not a global memory leak, so once the WorldShift program is closed, the system reclaims the memory, but the program eats up more and more memory over time.

The memory leak issue seems particularly bad on Renegades, but whether this is the direct cause of the aforementioned lag, I cannot say.
