View Full Version : A glimpse of my mod

Well, I am making a mod on the Holy Roman Empire, you play as one of the squabbling states in an attempt to take control of the unstable empire, through force or election or trade. All the work I have here is a work in progress, it will be subject to change and is nothing more than a rough copy.

Here I will show the Italian portion of the map, the whole map will be as big as Europe, and will stretch from the North sea, the Baltic sea to the Adriatic. So far I finished all my planning for Switzerland and Italy, that's the easy part, the Swabian and Rhineland sections are the toughest. So far I have Italy finished and will show a glimpse. I will tweak the provinces, add kingdoms (not done the north) and do lots of work on the kingdom modification. I will also add new units and structures to enhance the Late Medieval Germany atmosphere.

Here I'm playing as Tuscany, by default at war with Papacy. I modified the Papal flag, the rest of the flags are going to be changed to be more historically accurate. Lombardy, Savoy and the whole region to the north of Italy is not done yet, the castle far north on the mini-map is just to make the game test-worthy.

I will soon post a whole thread on my mod and keep it updated, releasing information as progress is made, I will try to work on this more than my AARs so updating my AARs will be slower.

I was thinking about this yesterday. Of course it'd take me way too many hours to do and using the editor is a pain. GL.

Hi Carbon, it's nice, but the map isn't of size of European map

To have size of Europe map (the original one) you have to load it and then remake it to completely new map (erase everything etc.)

The size I see on your screenshots is the 3rd largest. As the editor is very buggy, it confuses map sizes: you don't get the size you click at. You can compare it with size of the white frame on the minimap

Good luck with the mod Carbon; the more, the better - and I'm sure you'll be able to come up with an interesting one.

To have size of Europe map (the original one) you have to load it and then remake it to completely new map (erase everything etc.)It saves time to use the map Angr.. I mean Mephistopheles provided on the other boards. I'm sure someone could provide it again. If you want such a large map, that is.

Carbon

Yes I need a very large map, otherwise the super-small provinces will be too scrambled up to understand. Where can I find Angryminer's map? (I'm sorry it's easier to spell angryminer out with apostrophe S)

Mephistopheles
21 Aug 2007, 22:22
First, Mephistopheles is the long version of Mephisto, which is more common in other languages. Or, as a shorthand, use Meph ;) .
Second, I created an over-size map which seemed to work, but Elvain reported problems with it. So please only use the original europe-map.

I like the fact you can make your own mod from scratch :D

I want to make one of England only, with many estates, and you can see a good chunk of france, part of norways, and the northern most part of spain. :D

I think I saw that mod in the old forum... it looks good.

Ohh thats already a mod?

Sweet! I'd do -
Early, pagan country, Vikings invade, France is some wierd countries.
High, England is divided, like in the regular early, and there is Norway, who wants to reunify.
Late, 100's year war and scottland, and some rebellion problems with england.

It would be Awsome!

That weird country is called the Franks, and it's ruler happens to be called the Father of Europe (Charlmagne).

Also, I still don't know how to upload Europe map, can anyone tell me how?

Well I was thinking before the Frankish empire, but after the Romans, maybe the Gauls? I could do the Frankish empire, but it wasn't what I was looking for....

is it possable to add an extra period?

A fourth period? No.

That seems quite nice modification, but looking at the maps at the moment I have just two suggestions:

More precision on the map. The coast looks quite inaccurate and the minimap is quite boring, too. I know that the work is still in progress, but I just had to note it.

You should remove some villages, now they are literally on each other. A bigger map (if possible) wouldn't also be a bad idea, since there could be longer distances between towns.

The map is just a rough copy of the mod, just so I can see space and provinces etc. and will not be the final map, the final map would be very detailed in geography.

As for the bigger map, yeah I am trying to have a map as big as Europe to fit the small provinces, but I don't know how to load the Europe map and nobody has told me yet...

it's rather simple.

copy everything from mape/europe/ to maps/temps/europe and then erase everything in the editor (rivers and roads can only be removed as files wrivers and wroads

the mapsize you were using is terribly small

Ehi, sorry but I see two little mistakes in your map.
1) You wrote FERRERA, but the right name is FERRARA.
2) There is a town named ROMAGNA, but this is the name of a region. If you want, you can write RAVENNA, that was an important and historical town, ruled by an Archbishop sent by the Pope.

Sorry for that :)
Bye!

Hi, I think you know that on a map you always see names of PROVINCES over towns (on the main map) and the provinces always have capitals. I believe that the capital of Romagna is for sure Ravenna

PS: for those who like roman and especially byzantine history, Ravenna is perhaps the most beautiful city they could see ;)

That's not so simple actually. If I do what You say and then load the Europe map in the editor, it just crashes after having finished loading. Is there something else I should know?

eh, really? I don't know I didn't even remember when I did it last... so perhaps look into the Mapeditor thread in the old forum's archive, I gave a link in the Mods overview thread

When you open the editor, select "RANDOM MAP" and if you are lucky, you'll have your very huge map like Europe map.
I did so, and I was lucky :)

UPDATE: The mod will take place in one era (As of yet, this is planned but more eras are a possibilty) It will take place from 1370s - 1400s and possibly 1500s, mainly because I can't find a good map of the HRE showing every state, so I will use my knowledge with the refrence I have to build a map showing the provinces from 1350s-1700s (Most states remained the same throughout that period).

I am also adding many new buildings and units, some are to improve realism (such as hiring unloyal outlaws for cheap) other units are based on the German, Austrian, Prussian (Brandenburg and Teutonic Knights) and Polish military systems, trianable German merceneries will also be available, not to mention the French, Italian and Swiss mercenery military systems.

I can find you one, Just a minute...

EDIT:

Ah here is one,
Click Here (http://www.chivalricorders.org/nobility/holyroman/images/map1648.jpg)

And if that one is too hard to read, here is a larger version.

Thanks for the maps Frankoman, I'll be sure to include you in the credits, but the second map is based in a time when the HRE was very united and was practically one state, I will instead base the map on the late medieval era.

Yes, the First if from around 1400's-1500's and the second one 1138-1254. Just incase you deside to do two era's.
Glad to help! :D and I am also greatful to be in the credits. (Yes!!!)

Good luck!

I believe I could help you with HRE in times of Frederick II. or in all 13th century, I don't have maps, but I have tables with rulers of Imperial estates who were at least semi-independent since approx death of Frederick Barbarossa and the upcoming fight between Philip of Swabia and Frederick II.

btw here's one map of HRE in Staufen times:
http://img255.imageshack.us/img255/2954/staufnx7.jpg

and another one of 1378 (I think it's variation of the same map Franoman provided, possibly it's source):
http://img295.imageshack.us/img295/1771/centraleurope1378ku9.jpg

I also should have somewhere maps of Poland (in polish) and France in the 13th century

well, you perhaps can see that I'd prefere also one more era in the 13th century :D which was IMO very important for shaping the whole central (and not only central) Europe

There is no such thing as maps/temps/europe

I copied C:\Program Files\Black Sea Studios\Knights Of Honor\maps\europe but I don't know where to paste it since maps/temps/europe does not exist. Also there is C:\Program Files\Black Sea Studios\Knights Of Honor\maps\maps\europe which one do you want me to copy?

I just reviewed the second map you have, many of the states I will make are similar to the ones shown on that map.
