Is there any way to set up vassals from your empire, or can this only be done by letting a local rebellion go through or by crusade?

Well, you can use bsswitch, then go to war, surrender as a vassal and then bsswitch again :D
Other from that, I have no idea...

What is bsswitch? :confused:
Bsswitch is a cheat that you can use to switch to whatever kingdom you like to
People use it when their kingdom is becomming to big and change to one that is much smaller so they have a challenge again
If you're winning a war you can make demands with respect to the other's surrender, for example that he will become your vassal.

OK, but I don't see how this could help me with my "problem"? I would like to release vassals from my kingdom, and I'm wondering if there is any way to do this besides letting a local rebellion go through?
PS: I'm not seeking to play as another faction.

aah, you want to release them from vassalage? Why?
you can do so through diplomatic negotiation. In the bottom there is "grant independence" option which makes your vassals independent and greatly improves your relations with them.

Well... no! :D I want to create vassals from my existing empire. Not forcing someone (my foe) to become vassal as a deal from a war. I would like to set up a satellite, or puppy state if you will.
Example: If I start out playing as Sweden... is there any way I can make Finland a vassal? That is, without stimulating local rebellion in the province of Finland.
I cross my fingers, that I have managed to make myself clearer this time around. :go:
you were clear enough even the first time. just everyone here tried to actually help you to find a way to DO it, eventhough it is not possible.
So the answer is: there is no possibility to make your province become your puppet state or your vassal.
