When I try to launch the game, an error message shows up saying something along the lines of "hook found: please deactivate your anti-virus and/or anti-Trojan software and retry."

What does that even mean? Why should a game be telling me that? If anyone can help (I know the game is old, but I love it and I really want to play it on my new computer) I would really appreciate it.

I've tried reistallation, and it doesn't help. I can't think of anything else to try. I deactivated my firewalls, unistalled my anti-virus (I was going to do that anyway; I just did it a little earlier than planned), and told Windows (I have XP) to exempt KoH.

Please help! I would just go buy the game again, but I can't guarentee that the same thing won't happen, and I don't want to waste $20.

Help!

Did you install the 1.05 patch already? If not, it might help. Otherwise, I don't know what causes the Hook Process Found error. It can be an antivirus, DaemonTools, spyware or something else.

Quite often it is Norton AV, it also can be any virtual drive created on your HD for running CD images. It can be any cd/dvd burning software. The copy protect used detects such and gives that error message. Installation of the 1.05 patch deactivates the copy protest and fixes that error message problem.
