View Full Version : Knights of Honor again?
Yesterday i saw in a german store Karstadt from greenpepper.de under the label UBISOFT Knights of Honor . I buy two DVD copy for 6.99 Euro and i hope the newest patch 1.05 was already inside, but this wasnt.
Only the version 1.03.1528.
Its not a good deal for sell Knights of Honor again without the newest patch.
Interesting. Greenpepper havent the game more in his programm.
interesting. I thought BSS have bought the rights for Knights of Honor.
maybe it was some older Sunflowers' copy which just got Ubisoft label?

The DVD have the UBISOFT Label 300011652.
does the number have some special meaning (so it would mean it couldn't be Sunflowers copy relabeled to Ubisoft) I don't understand?
anyway it is just my speculation. I see no reason why should Unisoft try to re-release KoH, especially when the rights are (supposed to be) owned by BSS
By the way, this version can you play without DVD. You need the DVD only for installing.

It may be an old copy? Frujin?
well, that's weird.
Laudan are you sure that it is without the second patch? because only second patch lets you play without the CD/DVD.
But if this lets you play without DVD, it definitely is not an old copy (with only 1.03 patch). Maybe illegal Ubisoft DVD? :D

I was very surprize that i can play without the DVD. I testing the game for 3 hours. Its the version 1.03. Normaly you can play only with the patch 1.05 without the DVD.
If BSS want check the DVD , then i send the DVD with the bill to BSS.
EDIT: Now i know, that i can play version 1.03 without the patch. I have already KoH installed on my PC with the patch 1.05 and rename the folder in Black Sea Studios german, so i can install a second KOH in english.
In the moment i can play version 1.03 or 1.05.
Perhapps the copy protect on the original was added by Sunflowers instead of BSS. And Ubisoft has gotten hold of Knights of Honor from the files at Sunflowers and has released iit without copy protect. At any rate, if BSS acquired the rights to KoH from Sunflowers when they developed the last patch for Sunflowers, then I would think that this Ubisoft release would be an infringement on those rights and BSS should receiive royalties from Ubisoft for each copy sold. On the same token if this gets more people playing KoH then it could only be good for the future of KoH.

If BSS acquired the rights after the last patch, and the DVD in question is without the last patch, everything seems ok here, heh.
Ubisoft acquired Sunflowers prior to the last KoH patch.
That is very strange and we will check what's going on.

You are wrong there! Ubisoft acquired Sunflowers after the last patch. I was a Smod at Sunflowers when the last patch was released.

However I'm not sure at which time the rights to the KoH merchandise changed owners.
I am almost sure that the rights were acquired by BSS BEFORE the last patch (Sunflowers didn't want to make the second patch and it was released after BSS acquired the rights if I remember correctly)
There was that prolonged wait for the last patch. According to Webbi at the time there was some bargaining going on. Then after it was announced that there would be a patch, we still had to wait a period of time for BSS to reach a point in development of Worldshift(we didn't know the name then) before they started to work on the patch. If I remember correctly at some point between then and when Sunflowers announced the buyout by Ubisoft, Frujin told us in a post at the Sunflowers forum that he had acquired the rights to KoH and we were lead to believe it occurred during the bargaining process for the patch.
Here some picture from the DVD. The date on the picture are wrong, i not change it inside the camera.

It's in their catalogue:

Apparently, they haven't noticed that they didn't have the rights on the game...

That entry was from 2004, when Sunflowers still existed and BSS and Sunflowers still had a working partnership. You will notice it showa it being from Sunflowers & Black Sea Studios.
If you click on the homepage link you find that it is no longer a valid link.

The homepage does not exist anymore as it was run by Sunflowers...
Imo, they should remove the game from their catalogue if they don't have the rights anymore...no?
They obviously had a distribution agreement with Sunflowers & Black Sea Studio to distribute the game and it does appear the game they are selling is the original release and not the Ubisoft release. If they have the games in stock from when they were distributing for Sunflowers then they have every right to have them in their catalogue for sale.
That is sort of like the recent purchase/takeover of Budweiser. Should retailers throw all their Budweiser beer away and not sell it because it was made by Anhueser-Busch and the company is now owned by InBev.

Yes I know that! I mentioned that to further enforce how old the entry in the catalogue was!

I know this is off-topic, but yes, they should because neither Anheuser-Busch has the rights to use Budweiser label, as it is Bohemian bear made by Czech brewery and Anheuser-Busch uses their label illegaly
Work with me Elvain, you are not helping my cause! :)
I don't really understand these legal nuances and therefore I better comment only sidenotes I know better :D
