UPDATE : THIS POST IS OLD running KoH with Linux is easy now... read the last post.

As some of you know patch 1.05 removed the copy protection checking whether your CD is inserted and by removing this copy protection it became possible to run KoH under Linux with the help of WINE. Unfortunately the game does only work with an old version of wine and it would be great if others on this forum who are using KoH with Linux or who want to do it can post their experiences in this thread. If anyone is interested I can post a HOWTO for running KoH with an old wine version.

The problem for running KoH under Linux with a recent wine version is, that .ani cursors that are used in KoH are not supported. Does anyone know how to replace the .ani cursors or where the location of the are in the KoH directory? Maybe some guy of BBS can help? Please... I want to get this great game running perfectly under Linux...

Help by anyone is appreciated.

BTW... KoH in Wine Application Database: http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=7607

I don't think you should look at changing KoH to fit wine, but rather at making wine run windows applications.
Did you think of patching .ani-support into wine and recompiling it? Or for the time being, force hardware mouse cursors in wine so all mouse-cursor calls are omitted.

Thank you for the quick reply. I thought about forcing hardware mouse cursor but until now I did not find out how to change the setting. Any idea? I will try patching wine with ani support soon, as it takes some time for me to do compiling.

i remember that koh was considered 'smooth' by some forums members a while back, so the patch thing should fix it for you.
beyond that i think that in the wine configuration options there is something about mouse, or related hardware control, so check that out too.(it prob. isnt what you need, but i just recalled it so...).

good luck man,
i wish that BSS made patches to turn their games into linux compatible, like NWN, quake4, etc. :go:

lets just hope they maybe -though prob. not- do that for future games.
