I want to make "Saladin" quest for Middle east scenario (crusader period - around 1170), but there is little problem.
Let's first describe some basic historical facts:
Saladin was a general of emir of Halab who was sent to Egypt in order to protect (the last) Fatimid caliph.
Later the caliph died and a war for succession had started... and the final winner was Saladin.
He ruled over Egypt only and later he conquered also emirates of Damascus and Halab.
In the end he captured also Jerusalem and in fact eliminated crusader kingdom of Jerusalem.
There are few possibilities for the quest:
1) make the quest for Fatimids in the "high" period and give them only Egypt. The quest is achieved when they conquer Damascus (little later than in reality). Originaly I made it also for the early period, but there the Fatimids already meet all requirements (own required provinces while none of the rivals exist), so they always become Ayyubids.
2) Make the quest for Halab in the high period. If Egypt is conquered (2-3 most important provinces) Ayyubids are created and they get all original Fatimid provinces (Egypt down to Nubia, African coast), but Fatimids can survive, if they expanded somewhere else.
3) Make the quest for Halab (and Damascus). Requirements are to conquer most important Egyptian provinces and eliminate Fatimids (much harder!)
4) create small vizirate in Egypt with Saladin's uncle Shirkuh as ruler. It would be vassal of Halab, owning only 1 (max 2) province in Egypt, surrounded by Fatimid caliphate. The problem is a name. There are 2 possibilities: Ayyubids or Shadhids.
but Shirkuh isn't an Ayyubid (he's brother of Ayyub, Saladin's father) so Ayyubids are incorrect and Shadhids (named after Shirkuh's father) are incorrect because there was no suh dynasty
4a) if Shirkuh conquers other 2-3 important provinces in Egypt, the Ayyubid sultanate is created in Egypt and they overrun the Fatimids in their original lands as in n.2
4b) if Shirkuh conquers important provinces in Egypt and Fatimids are eliminated, the Sultanate of Ayyubids is established in Egypt with Saladin as ruler.
5) for 2, 3 and 4 there could be one more quest (only to gain prestige) - if all of Syria (north-Halab and south-Damascus) is united with Egypt
6) the last quest would be to eliminate kingdom of Jerusalem
The last will be included anyway, I'm just curious which of the first 5 you find the best.
