I'd just like to make people aware that a very decent strategy game has been released covering the Sengoku Period in Japan. It's by an indie dev. called Magitech.

I've had a lot of fun (still do) with Takeda 2 and have just started playing Takeda 3 (just released). It's a good game with a good AI. If you prefer Chinese history check Sango 2 which has been released last year with the same engine:

I took a quick look at the game and I have a question:
What actually sets Takeda 3 apart from a Shogun:TW clone?

There a some aspects very different:

- Personnel: each individual has very specific qualities. An army with good and experienced generals is very hard to beat. You also have to keep an eye on the untrustworthy allies and governors.

- Castles: each castle in the game is based on the original castle...so you won't see the same castle twice.

- Castle Siege is very hard (at least on difficult) as there are defensive towers (like the ones you can see in Ran)

- The general difficulty is higher (never lost a single campaign in Shogun).

- Geography. Very much like Rome and Medieval 2, you cannot cross mountains etc.

- Weather affects hugely the battles (fog, rain, snow)

Try the demo if you're interested. This doesn't mean that i still think that Shogun is one of the greatest games released.
