Unlike in KoH, there's no honor in m2tw. The AI totally lacks 'honor' and logic.:bash: Maybe it's just me, because I've just started playing the game, but I find it frustrating at times.

I'll let you guys in on a story, so you can judge my statement.

I've started playing m2tw, got through the tutorial, learned the basics, started the campaign with the HRE. I've got tired of that campaign, it was too easy, boring at times. So I've started a new campaign with Hungary. All was going the same, I had trade agreements with most of the factions, a few alliances here and there, and generally good relations with neighbouring kindgoms. when I diddn't have any space to expand (neighbouring rebel provinces) I attacked the Byzantine Empire. NON of my allies joined me, althogh they had only to win. My allies were at that time Poland, Sicily and Venice. I was dissapointed, the AI had no reason to disshonour the agreement. I got past it, and engaged in a long war with the Byzantines. After I've conquered two provinces I had my eyes on for some time, the war came to a halt. Neither attacked the other, but we were at war oficially. Meanwhile I've improved my relations with my former allies, helped Poland when it was excomunicated, later on helped them in a crusade too, clearing the way for their army. Poland soacked up all the glory conquering Jerusalem, I was confident I've gained a trusty ally. Here comes the inexplicable deception. I marched against Byzantium to further extend my borders, and while my forces were engaged in battle far from home, a Polish army crosses the northern border and lays siege on my capital fortress.:bash:
No honor, no logic. I repelled the attack, then another 5-4 waves from Poland invaded. It had no logic at all, because Poland was fighting by my side against the Byzantine Empire, why would their armies suddenly change dirrection? Then I found myself surounded by hostile kingdoms as Russia joined the war,and soon Byzantium, Poland and Russia became allies. So I've looked for allies to the west. The HRE was flourishing, and at war with Poland, but hey refused an alliance. I was like 'w t f ??' So I actually had to strugle to survive, repelling one attack after another, wasting money on armies rather than building up my cities, which strongly affected my economy, having almost no income for decades. The tables were about to turn though, because I made an alliance with the turks, who ended up in a deadly war with Byzantium, weakening the empire to a degree where they couldn't attack me, so I didn't have to reinforce my southern provinces. In the north Russia got tired of the futile attacks, because I crushed every invading army, so they asked for peace. Poland was left defenceless, I made preparations to invade and claim revenge for the treason by crushing everything in my path. BUT another turning point came: my cardinals died, a few turns before the election of the new pope, Poland gained advantage, and got hold of the pope, while I was besieging a Polish city, Prague. The new pope threathened me with excomunication, if I don't stop hostilities against Poland, so I retreated my armies. Then Poland invades me, and attacks my capital.:bash: No honor, period. No logic either, because after that they repeadetly attacked me, destroying their own relations with the pope chosen from among them. When conditions were favorable again, I've striked back, with full force, going straight for their capital. That was one of the most challenging, exciting and rewarding battles I've fought, as the enemy had reinforcements attacking me in the back. So I've conquered the city with moderate losses on my side and huge losses for Poland. I thought I was finally in controll, nothing can strike me, and I can prepare for the mongol invasion. But another anomaly occured. A german army that was stationing in my kingdom attacked my biggest city (left without any real defence because of the campaign in Poland). My nearest army was 2 turns away from the city, so I lost the province. The HRE had no reason to attack, but still kicked me under the belt. Meanwhile a plague broke out, slowly killing of my major forces.
Then I stopped playing, from fear of another 'surprize' (maybe the russians would have charged in again with a surprize, who knows). At times I felt this game is more of a chore, with it's obscure turning points.

So did any of you who played the game experienced similar things ??

Good AAR :D

I think the fact that the AI attacks you when you are weak speaks for it, not against. You will learn that the AI in M2TW is not that intelligent and complexe as it is in KOH. When it sees an city undefended it will probably succumb the tempation to conquer it. In vanilla M2TW alliances aren't as strong as they should be. The supporting system of allies is very rudimentary. You have to play good mods like Sword and Spear or Deus lo Vult if you want a challenging but realistic AI.

Maybe I should have made an AAR:go: and post it (but not in this forum)

Bottom line is: KoH is far better than m2tw in terms of logical AI behaviour, so enemy/ally rulers tend to act more honourably.

M2tw is more about the big eye candy tactical battles than anything else.

on the other hand Koh is a grand strategy game, whose focus is less fixed on the individual battle and more on the long run strategy to achieve greater goals than just winning a pitched battle to defeat 1 enemy.
