Hello.

I've opened this thread so you can recommend games that you think other KoH- or WS-players might enjoy.
I'll obviously go first:
Sins of a Solar Empire (http://www.sinsofasolarempire.com/)
It's a cross between Master of Orion like 4X games and typical WS-like RTS games: Set up a large empire in space, manage logistics and trade, bolster your economy to back up a large military force, research the topics relevant to your strategy and use a combination of basic frigates and huge capital ships to break the resistance of your enemies.
The game can be played almost as a 4X because ships will manage themselves in battle rather okay, even if you leave them completely alone. On the other hand it's a lot of fun to watch two capital ships, each in the middle of a pile of smaller frigates, lasers blazing, opening all-out fire on each other's army. So you'll tend to manage battles yourself just because it's fun to zoom in once in a while.
Short games last around one hour in standard settings. However large games with up to 10 players and hundreds of planets will take several evenings to finish.
There's a micro-expansion available that I didn't yet install, and there's still two more planned. So the game is still very far from the end of it's life cycle. The next expansion, expected very soon, is supposed to bring the diplomacy of the game up to scratch.

The game is distributed devoid of any copy protection and a bargain at publisher's (Stardock) online distribution system (called "Impulse").

Ground control 2. It is a game free of basebuilding. You capture points on the map to get money and call in your units with a dropship. The dropship can also be upgraded and used as a weapon.

That looks really interesting, Mephisto. I've actually been looking for some time for a space game that would interest me. The fact that you recommend it makes me really interested - and so do the screens. Is it also in stores?

Well, the amazon.de-marketplace still carries it at 10€.
On the other hand, if you want the mini-expansion you'll need an account at their online distribution system anyway, and it's not intrusive at all. After purchase you can download a zip-archive and install the game wherever you want to, whenever you want to and how many times you want to. It's not like Steam at all and thus very much worth the support.
(Just today I noticed that they put made a new version of the Monkey Island series with full voice-overs (!!!), but only distribute the PC version via Steam, so there's no way to get the game for me.)

Dwarf Fortress.

OK, it's a deep game... Too deep. Very deep, even.

But it's a good game. Really.

They say ADOM is quite similar and also very good.

Also, welcome back :)

Ah, thanks.

Hmm, but ADOM is old... I'd say Nethack is better overall.

Or Crawl.

Or ToME, eh.

for those who liked Paradox games of Europa Universalis series, there is new game based on EUII and its mods...

For the Glory.

From what I know, if the game really will offer everything what promissed, the time period can be pretty much stretched back to the Dark ages (it is promissed to be extremely modding friendly and Arabia Universalis mod will most probably be applicable, so you could start in 711) :)

I recommend:

Takeda 3 (Japan during the Sengoku period)

and very soon

Strength & Honor 2 (from China to Spain in the Antic World)

By Magitech

Both games are turn-based with real-time combat. It's an indie dev, so don't expect fantastic graphics but the gameplay and AI are top.

Cheers

Wow, Strength and Honor seems like a great game!
Though my favourite game in general is still Mount & Blade - I doubt there's anyone who hasn't heard of it, but in case there is - it's a sandbox RPG with a neat medieval-battle-simulator (basically, the RPG version of the Total War games, with the accent being almost entirely on the battles) and which has one of the largest modding comunities I've seen.

For the Glory looks very promising. I very often return to EUII but always step away when I get frustrated over it's shortcomings. I hope to see the diplomatic options enhanced.

I've heard about Mount & Blade, but never new it was a sort of RPG. I'm suprised and will very likely get that one. Even if I have no time whatsoever to try it out. ;)

Right now I'm (sort of...) patietly waiting for the driving games Forza Motorsports 3 and Gran Tourismo 5 to be released so I can compare them and decide on which is the better one.

Empire Total War (probably almost everyone knows about it so I wont describe it in detail)

+ sucessor Napoleon Total War :go: That's gonna be great !
