View Full Version : Many Questions

Hi,
I eagerly await the release of WorldShift and it's cunningness. Here are my questions/suggestions -

Question 1.
Will there be a Sandbox mode? Like in Knights of Honor, a Quick battle etc
Question 2.
I heard that there is a random map generator. Does that mean there will be a map editor?
Question 3.
Will WorldShift be easy to mod?
Question 4.
Will there be an option to use a professional camera, such as in the Unit Videos? This is for people like me who like to record game play to send to there Youtube so there subscribers can view a game before they buy (I saw a video on KoH, and loved it. I got the demo, loved it more. Then I bought the game :D)
Question 5.
Will there be a manual included with the box/case? Will there be a manual in the game as well for those who get the game elsewhere (Ebay etc)
Question 6.
Will the game be on programs such as Direct 2 Drive, steam etc so people who can not get it from a store and are weary about Ebay can still purchase the game?

Thankyou for your time.. Sorry for so many questions!

Sincerely,
Frankoman

Although, direct comparison between KoH and WS can not be made, yes, there is something that acts like Sandbox mode.

I heard that there is a random map generator. Does that mean there will be a map editor?

Yes, there is random map generator - and it rocks! But, there will not be map editor included as custom made maps just doesn't fit to overall game structure.

Will WorldShift be easy to mod?

Same, because of the heavy on-line nature of the game, modding will not do any good here.

Will there be an option to use a professional camera, such as in the Unit Videos? This is for people like me who like to record game play to send to there Youtube so there subscribers can view a game before they buy (I saw a video on KoH, and loved it. This is still to be decided.

Will there be a manual included with the box/case? Will there be a manual in the game as well for those who get the game elsewhere (Ebay etc)

Yes.

Will the game be on programs such as Direct 2 Drive, steam etc so people who can not get it from a store and are weary about Ebay can still purchase the game?

We can't answer this question as of yet.

Well, that's actually the first (or second) time I see Frujin anwsering so precisely, and to that many questions...
About the random map generator - nice hit :go: , even better for online play than a map editor.
Just one thing - how are the maps gonna be transfered?
I assume the host will generate a map, but what about the other players?
Usually, if a player doesn't have a map, he can't choose his start position...

Please, BSS, work some more to make WS easy to mod!!!

Obviously the map is generated on all computers.
And what is this about choosing starting positions? You don't choose positions in this kind of games. Especially on a RANDOM map.

The man said "no map editor". What kind of modding do you expect beyond that?

Man, which planet are you from? (no offence :P)
There's a HUGE difference between modding a game, and creating a map (with or without a map editor [though without could prove a bit difficult :P ] )

And as someone said here (http://forums.blackseastudios.com/showthread.php?p=3193#post3193) - "RTS progressed a bit since original C&C" ... :crushed:
Which, in English, means, that for the past 8 years (or was it 9... ? ), I haven't seen a RTS in which you can't choose your starting positions...

And, btw, you choose your starting position exactly in this type of games!

And, again, not being able to choose your starting position isn't very modern gameplay style...

And, as Frujin said - due to the heavily online-based nature of the game, modding would be obsolete. Or you've seen mods for, f.e., WoW? ;)

So, would you remind me which RTS game has random maps with the option to choose starting positions?
Here is the answer for you: None.
Why? Because random map generation starts AFTER you press the "Start" button.

Wow, guys, I mean mods loke those here
I don't know what are you guys thinking about, but that's what I understand from the word mod (especially if it's for an RTS)...
Man, I can't find you a link!
But, anyway, the best are at moddb.com...
If you want, you can look fot C&C:TS/FS or C&C:TW

Man, which planet are you from? (no offence :P)
There's a HUGE difference between modding a game, and creating a map (with or without a map editor [though without could prove a bit difficult :P ] )well, of course there is, but I'm affraid that most of people on this world don't know what some modding is, so I don't understand why you use such expressions

so - as Frujin and Nike said - the map editor - thugh announced not to be included - would be the only reasonable solution for those who want to personalize the game

PS: why are you so nice to each other?

PPS: hehe, you posted a link to one nice czech band lol

OMG, dude!
Maybe there's such a game...
I don't know.
But take C&C:RA1/Yuri's Revenge for instance...
I don't have time to explain now, but I'll get back to you tommorow...

P.S.: Sorry about the double post.
// or not... :confused:

EDIT : Well, sorry about the expression :P
I'm just not used to people who don't know what modding means.
Usually I'm the one that understands the least :p

I deduce that you label "modding" the process of tweaking the game - gameplaywise or else, for example with changing the rules, meddling with the scripts, etc.
The modding I am used to usually involves much more work and almost always includes a map editor in the process.

Well, with two words (couse I have to study :P [though it doesn't show :D ] ) :
That's called creating maps (much more work LOL :O )... (haha 2 words... :P)
Yes, that's what I mean.

Haha, we'll, it appears we're pretty good at spamming :D
We turned this thread into pure spam in a few hours :p

But why did that have to happen when I had to study for a History exam...?!? :(

And to conclude our little spam, modding a game is done with a lot of tools, but none is a map editor.
A map editor is used for creating maps.
Under "modding" I understand, like you said "changing the rules of the game" : changing prices of units/buildings, build speed, movement speed, firepower, rate of fire, putting different weapons on a unit/structure etc. .....
And that's the basics of modding...

I see. Apparently DotA and CS are not mods because they used a map editor. :)

DotA and CS... ?
Those don't mean anything to me, but maybe they aren't. :P

NikeBG

DotA and CS (especially CS) have not only made maps, but have altered rules, in-game graphics etc. A mod can be even simple sound changing (like TW's Xenophonia mod for native speech, although it's considered a bit of a lesser mod, despite of the huge work), but it requires alternating game files, not simply using only a map editor and creating custom maps. I'm not sure how DotA was created, but it has alternated some of the WC3 rules through file modifying and is thus a mod as well...

Sarcasm.

Anyway, the map editor is usually the single most powerful tool of the modder.
And DotA is created exclusively with the WC3's World Editor, not altering any game files. All the rules and graphics are in the map file.

Not necessarily, map editing is just one of the possibilities for a modder and usually a less important one. Or at least I consider a map's new eye candy less than a revamped game rule, which ultimately changes the style of gameplay (i.e. "changing tactics" < "changing entire strategy").

As for DotA - if WC3's original build (mainly the world editor) has been made to support rules such as DotA's, then the DotA is simply not a mod, but a further-developed WC3 feature.

Now that's true.

Hey, don't cry, we'll still get a random map generator! :)
Which is pretty cool.
And WAY easier to use :p
