View Full Version : Map Editor & Fanmade Scenarios
I know the gameplay of worldshift focuses on the "relic hunt" using random & premade
dev maps and usermade ones that give "leader rewards" can create countless abuses .But why restrict players with only the "leader" playstile?
Some fanmade scenarios and maps can be surpricengly good & fun and can increase the "life" of the game . Also playermade scenarios can be much more complex(and this eventualy means more fun) than randomly generated ones.
For example : From time people will want to take a break and play somethink difrent from the normal "item hunt"/"duel"(lets speak with mmorpg words :)) games and play an Anime/Cristmas/Music and so on.. themed scenarion just for the fun of it .
I think Frujin has already stated that Worldshift is not designed for modding or editing. If the style of play Worldshift offers is not what you like, perhaps you need to play something that does what you are wishing.

BSS can easy made a map editor after the release of the game. Like Heroes 5. Frujin said the random maps rock but it is different to give players the opportunity to create their own maps.
Also anyway some one maybe rock headed and decide to alter the game files...

Of course there will be guys modding the game as hard as it is. Or they may die trying :D

hahahahaha... Still anyway as hard as KoH in the beginning, it life now depends entirely on mod, don't you think?

Well I still play KoH in original and haven't tried any of the mods but yes - mods make games' life longer.
Yep, it is...
And the multi too, BTW...
So maybe the BSS discarded the Mod for the stable multiplayers..

Starcraft is alive for ten years without mods(of course there are many but the game is mostly played in original). WS will do it too :P
Yes, there are people, who will definitely will mod it as soon as it comes out.

It really depends how much of an MMO Worldshift is.. You wouldn't expect to be able to design your own raid or quest or item or unit in World of Warcraft, so why would you expect to do it here?
Then again it wouldn't be a problem if it counts as a practice map or some sort of offline map that doesn't 'count', that would allow it to be as easy or insanely hard as one desires. So then the question is just whether the devs want to take the time to put out a map editor or not.
If you're intent on modding or making content for any game whatsoever, there's probably tons of them outside the MMOG space that would appreciate the effort more. In other words, why mod something or "die trying" when it's not particularly suitable for modding?
I do feel the gameplay could do with more variety right now, but I think we're going to have to leave that up to the devs. For now when I'm bored of the gameplay it offers, I'd just boot up a different game.
In my oppinion releasing a map editor would be okay.
See, there are "Training Maps" right? On these maps you can .. train, hooray.
And on these training maps you dont get any shards nor artefacts. Therefore i think if people want to build up some maps to train tactics or whatsoever it would be okay to do that. The only thing is that on those maps there shouldn't be any artefacts nor Xenolite deposits.
And for good maps that should go 'live' as maps for deathmatch etc..
Well get some people like, let's say 'pro-gamers' (i mean some people with experience) to look at the map, if they find anything to fix, they can do it, then they tell a staff member to take a final look and we might get a new map for WS.
It's like at CS or CS:S. There are hundreds of Mapper, and thousands of maps. But only very few maps have gotten really live as in being played in leagues.
Or WarCraft 3, hundreds Mappers and maps too, but only a few made it for league maps (and i'm not only thinking of DotA / Footy).
Well Frujin? What do you say? :)
