Not good. In about ten minutes I coudn't make this thing speak of anything theologically relevant. And I was trying, too. Kind of a downer. Maybe it rather speaks of my English, though.
It does not have very good AI!
I said several things that it did not understand or had never heard before.
After one statement, the respose was "..."
To which I said I have caused you to be speechless!
Which it had never heard before and had only the response that it had never heard that before!
beer (rather czech, but laso belgium or bulgarian - good), wine (rather red)
Your beer is served!

Merry Chr.....oh, yeah. That was a long time ago! *hint hint*
How are everyone! I see some old Knights are still here! :D
Me? Oh, i'm spiffy as always. Thanks for asking.
Seems this Wφrld-shiiift has gotten some good attention. I haven't really dwelled into it myself, though. Been busy. Has it gotten some good reviews? I know there is a two sub-forums for this game, but I think the Tavern is the best place to discuss things at. And it's nostalgic here. After all, we wrote a bloody book in "here"! :D
Oh, and Bartender, got some more of that sweet nectar of life left? I'm ofcourse talking about beer.
This round is on me. Put it on my tab. :go:

Yep, still here. I'm mostly here for Worldshift these days, but I still check the KoH-section.
Things will propably get more lifely when WS is out and a couple of patches are released because I'm pretty sure that after WS there's a big fat "Knights of Honor 2" on BSS's to-do list. :)
Door opens and a slouchy figure enters the Dusky Tavern. "Hey Dober buddy, give me one" - almost whispers Frujin, than hauls his legs to the empty table in the corner. No one turns to him for more than a mere nod, but it looks like Frujin likes it that way. He enjoys the break and the brew and listens the chat on the other tables.. which kind of brings him back to the real world.

I wonder if there is an ATM nearby...my tab must be rather large at the moment...

Well, since Dobber is unwilling to run tabs anymore I'll just help myself with some beer from my fridge. Cheers.
Things are going fairly well at school. I did drop a class this week, Environmental Biology. I developed shingles 2 weeks ago and have been unable to sit through a full day at school. The Biology course was my last course of the day and when you cannot attend class because of pain, you cannot hope to make the grade, so I will retake it next fall.
For those that don't know what shingles are, they are caused by the chicken pox virus. Anyone that has had chicken pox is susceptible to developing shingles. They are very painful. Geography, American Literature and Health & Wellness Concepts are all going very well.
My presentation to the class in geography was on Bulgaria and Romania. I enjoyed that experience to the fullest.
Perhaps, but everybody knows that only swedish made meatballs are worth mentioning! *cough cough*

Ouch, from that kind of geography I hated the most - socio-political! :D
And, btw, the popular music here is the so-called "pop-folk", more commonly known as "chalga" and surprisingly hated by the majority of people, especially from the bigger cities, and nevertheless still remaining the most common music. Hated, but still listened! :D
Oh, and we don't claim the baklava - it's clearly Turkish, Bulgarian cuisine isn't so much sweet! ;)

Yuuuuuck. Don't think that swedes eat that Angry (yup, i'm stilling calling you Angry. It sticks.)! Well, the main population don't do anyway. Only if they remove their sense of smell and tastebuds first....
Have you started learning Swedish by the way Angry? Sex vaxade laxar i en vaxad laxask? :D
Sorry to hear you missed a class Dobber and got the shingles. Sounds dastardly annoying! By the way; I can't remember, did you decide in what type of school you were going to teach at? I think it was a standoff between high-school and middle school, no?
Hopefully 1st or 2nd grade.
And Nike, somewhere I read that Baklava was claimed by Bulgaria as well as every other Balkan country, and I ascertained a recipe that I shared with the class that was from someone's Bulgarian grandmother. It was a simplified Baklava that was not as rich as some.
Ah, baklava is *made* all over the Balkans, yes, and here we make it a bit less... sugarry and a bit more juicy. Btw, have you tried boza? :p :D
Haven't tried boza, what is it?
An originally Turkish "drink" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boza), which funnily actually has some small percentage of alcohol in it (around 1%). It looks rather disgusting to most Westerners (though the taste can be pretty nice), so in my dad's work they used it as a test for all who are going to be missionaries in foreign countries. :D

One round of special beer on my account! I'm particularly happy today, since I was just re-elected for a university council. It seems spring (and then summer) is coming as well - what else can one want?

Dobber's Log - Night of Betrayal
I rode from the city, as a great squad of dragon's came flying in, hawk_knight's dragon squad had returned. I must find the Druid Ainvar and consult with him, I need him to look into the future for me if he will. I need to know if there is to be any comfort for my troubled soul. The fields around the city are littered with bodies, many men died on the battlefield this day, many men on both sides of the battlelines! The allied forces, though victorious, have been so decimated there is no way to continue on to Constantinople, not without reinforcements, reinforcements we don't have the luxury of!
I found the Druids in the forest where they had been prior to the battle, they prefer to be outdoors, they don't like the cramped confines of a city. I met with Ainvar and told him of my troubled soul, it was not news to him, he could feel it. And what he had to tell me was even more troubling, darker days were ahead for me. I thanked Ainvarfor his help, eventhough I was even more troubled now than before, but at least I now knew what was troubling me!
I went out into the night and led my horse through the shadows deep in thought, I knew what I had to do, but why does everything have to be so hard. Why are we forced to make choices? I made my peace with my maker, settled onto my mount and rode to the southwest, bypassing Adrianople as I rode.
Far to the southwest of the city, I came upon the camp of a large Arabian force just as Ainvar had said I would. They seemed to be expecting a lone rider. I was met by a confident young man that motioned me to follow him. I was taken to a larger tent in the center of the camp, the Commanders quarters I assumed. Inside the tent I came to face a man that I recognized as a brilliant leader of men, the kind of man that could command the attention of all around. I could see that he would be a formidable adversary on the battlefield. A very interesting man, a man that I could enjoy conversation with, were it under different circumstances. But as it was, I just wanted to hear what is was he wanted from me. He told me that the battle I had been involved in that day was nothing compared to what was to hit Adrianople, the forces he had there had been held back awaiting the outcome of the days battle, he told me of Byzantine forces to the south that had been held back as well. The days battle had been a measure of our strength, a sacrifice of fighting men to ascertain our numbers and to whittle them down before the major assault.
He wanted to know how devastating the battle had been, had any of our Commanders lost their lives, what was the condition of the battlements of the city. I told him I could tell him nothing without knowing, I had to see the bargaining chip before telling him anything. He summoned one of the guards to open a flap at the rear of the tent, then to close it back. I was satisfied and told him everything I knew for certain, all the way up to the arrival of the 5000 strong dragon squad from Mithrill. After we had finished I asked when could I leave. He said I was free to leave when I was ready, that he would provide a three day escort to see me off to the northwest and away from the area of Adrianople.
Then, I said, "And the boy?"
He said, "Of course, that was the deal!"
He motioned once again to the guard, the guard opend the flap once more, removed the bindings and the blindfold from the boy and nudged him into the tent.
As the boy came into the tent, he looked up and saw me and the doubt left his eyes and he ran to me and leaped into my arms, "Father, father, is it really you?"
Hawk's log.
When I was flying towards Adrianople. I suddenly saw a signal from the ground which only my scouts now and whould only use if they had any important things to tell me. He gave the signal from the southwest so i quickly went flying down towards him and landed. When I got of my dragon he said my king. I got big news he said about the enemy there aint defeated yet they got a large byzantine force to the south even larger then we had fought. And a arabian force which is camping nearby just a few miles away. But one thing I saw which I hoped I did not saw sir. I said what did you saw then he said I saw sir dobber riding into the arabian camp. What! are you sure? Yes my lord i did saw him. The other commanders must know about the enemy armies. I called my guards and sended each one of them to the commanders of the armies with the news about the enemy. I did not told them about dobber yet as I got a feeling he was forced in a way to go there and probally tell them about the situation of the allied army. In hte message to the other commanders and to my troops i asked them to sent all infrantry with food qiuckly in to Adrianople. But the heavy horsemen they must sent them in to the western woods as we could make later a sweep along side the enemy and attack them from the flank and maybe from behind when there busy storming the castle. And maybe destroying there anti dragon outfits too. As they know probarly about that my dragon squad had returned.
But i now told my guards to go and they flew off with the news. I told my scout to lead me to the arabian camp. my dragon was ready to follow me but I asked him to guard over me from the sky. But he must nog let himself be seen. After some walking i got near the arabian camp
I saw some men on horseback walking on the road. I said to my scout the camp will come later will will check those horsemen out. They werent moving fast so I could easly get closer to them to get a better look at things. When I did i saw dobber but he was holding a boy into his hands. Which looked a bit the same a dobber and was holding him tight. He was probarly escorted out of the camp by 4 arabian horsemen.
I waited till they got a bit further out of the camp before i made my move to attack them as I need to talk to dobber to get some sence into him about his actions. after 18 min of following i saw my chance to attack I knew my dragon was eager too. So i threw out of the woods 2 daggers at 2 arbian horsemen. Then i grasped my sword and run out of the forest the horsemen and dobber where suprised by this. Then my dragon came out of the sky and landed with his sharp claws in of the horsemen. The other I had killed in a small sword play after killing the guards i returned my eyes to dobber. The first things I said to him where Dobber what where you thingking to go into the arabian camp and telling them info about the army. I know that i would save your son but you could had saved him without telling core info. He was looking at me with his eyes wide open as he might thought how i could now about his son. I asked dobber if he could explain his actions to me. Now I am waiting for a answer from him.
Dobber's Log - Rescue
My son and I were led away under a heavy guard. I was allowed to keep my sword. I had no intentions of trying to take on the whole Arabian army, nor did I intend to try to overthrow the unit that was to escort us to the northwest. I would do nothing at this point to endanger my son's safety, his mother, God rest her soul, would never forgive me.
We were taken from the camp by a party of 4 horsemen. I had an ominous feeling as if we were being watched and followed, I dare not try anything. The Arabian Commander may be hoping for me to attempt an escape from the guard so he can kill me and my son.
Some distance from the camp, all hell broke loose, something came bursting from the trees and then something swooped down from above, before I could even ascertain what had happened the 4 horsemen were dead. Then I was sitting there in shock, staring into the eyes of Commander hawk_knight.
hawk_knight was asking questions, it took me a moment to realize that he was. Then I realized he was asking me why I went into the Arabian camp giving them info about the Allied forces.
"What leads you to think I told them anything?" "Where are these accusations coming from?" "Were you there in the tent with me?" "Where do you come off with these accusations?" "You don't know anything about what I just experienced!" "You have no idea what I had to do to gain the freedom of my son, yes you are right, this is my son!" "Yes, there was a price for his freedom, but you don't know what that price was! Unless you were behind it and set the price for his freedom!" "Don't pass judgement on a man until you have traveled his path!" "I gave them some info, it seemed to satisfy them, I have my son! They know that your dragon squad has arrived. They know of the damage to the battlements of the city. They know that the forces on both sides took heavy casualties! How much of this could they ascertain from scouting?" "I think they did this to remove one more Commander from the field of battle!" "Go Commander hawk_knight, go to the Commanders and tell them to prepare for another battle, there will be no rest for your troops. And be advised, they say they have more Arabian reinforcements arriving soon. That they have a force one days ride from their current position, how many are in that force they did not say!" "Go and prepare your men, meet with the Commanders and draw up a plan of defense!" "Tell them what you wish concerning me, it does not matter, you can feel whatever you wish about me and my actions here tonight! I had an oath to fulfill that went far beyond and above any allegiance I had to the Allied forces!" "I swore an oath to my son's mother, as she lay dieing from complications giving birth to our son, that I would never let any harm come to him! I had to honor that oath! How the Arabians found my son and came to be holding him I have no idea, but someday I will know and when I do I will avenge that breach, but now I must be on my way, I have far to travel, I cannot afford to linger here and jeopardize my son's safety!" "Thank you for removing the escort, but now it is time to bid farewell, I need to be putting some miles behind me and you need to consult with the Commanders and make preparations, Maybe you can take your dragon squad and attack that marching force and remove them from the equation before they are able to reach the armies they are to reinforce!" "May the God's be with you, hawk_knight!"
With that I gathered up the reins of the remaining live horses(the extra horses would afford us quicker travel) and rode away with my son.
Hawk's log
I understand your fellings and your oath. If i was in your situation i would have done the samething. As your not alone who is defending his children
I am protecting my son and my 2 daughters from the armies of byzantine/arabian. As if we would let them go on whithout a hold they would come closer and closer to my land and closer to the castle where my children live. I know that the info you told them that they could get it by scouting. Dobber go if you want but listen to this we could use your help defending the city. If your concerned about your son don't worry my dragon scarlet will look after your son with his live and he will keep him out of the battle as he will fly some miles away. Thing about when your riding
and if you wan't you and your son are welcome to join me later at my castle in mithrill after this war with the byzantine is done. I had alreayde sent messengers to the other commanders to prepare for the defend of the city.
I also said to dobber when your lying in your bed after many years have past and thinking of this day. Would you run with your son and letting the danger just walk behind you which is threating your son or would you grasp your sword and take the enemy head on and let my dragon guard your son and no harm will come to you. You will honour your oath to your wife to protect your son if you make your decision to grasp your sword and face the enemy head on. You know where to find us dobber so if you wanna stand and fight to protect your son. May you think deeply about this dobber as we sure could use a another friend with us .
Now dobber i must go to the city and prepare for battle I may go to that army that is marching to join the arabaian forces and try to slow them down. But now i must fly dobber. Dobber if you do choose to go and not come back take this token and go to mithrill if you want a place to let your son grow up. If you let this be seen to my wife she will let you stay in mithrill. now goodbye friend may I see you again later.
It's been so long, I forgot almost everything's that happened in the last parts of the story. I think that the story that started with coconut slingers and combat cows got overcomplicated and too serious than it was intended. :D
Yeah and you quit contributing. Was it because it was getting to complicated?

Well, for reference, here (http://www.goneflowers.de/archive/index.php/t-3504-p-116.html) is the last page of the story.
A small write-up to refresh the memory:
Let's begin with a small part of allied forces moving to protect Adrianople from incoming Byzantine/Arab troops. Shortly after arriving the enemy arrives and lays siege to the town. The main army arrives just in time when the enemy assaults the town and the town-defenders flee from the town to merge with the main army.
The main army turns the tables and goes to assault the enemy in the open field, barely keeping the better equipped and more numerous enemy under control. But eventually the allied troops erode the enemy and win the battle.
The few remaining troops make camp before Adrianople and the commanders gather in Adrianople's citadell, though in the late evening Dobber is missing without explanation, Angryminer left the town in a trembling state of mind after the horrible battle and Hawk Knight is for some reason late to arrive at the city.
I think I'll contribute myself tomorrow.
Yeah and you quit contributing. Was it because it was getting to complicated?
Well, yes, I had a hard time figuring out what's going on, little time and lots to read, so I gave up. It stopped being fun and became difficult.
Well, for reference, here (http://www.goneflowers.de/archive/index.php/t-3504-p-116.html) is the last page of the story.
Actually there are two more logs on the next page after that one.
And here is the story in its entirety! Right here on this forum!
The Tavern Story (http://forums.blackseastudios.com/showthread.php?t=1395)
That was a lot of work, I need a drink myself after that!
OMG, we're continuing the Tavern Story?! I have to say I started feeling like Xuca too, like everyone else, I presume...
Cheers, Dobber, great work!
This 10,000 character limit sucks! Luckily there was only one log entry that was over 10,000 characters, So only once did I have to continue a log from one post to the next. Can we guess whose log entry that was? Hee hee!

My bet is on Nike. Definitely.
How about a free drink for everyone who guesses right?
It was a post full of history. We all know who the historian in the group of writers is. The post was made under his psuedonym Traveller.
Wow, I'm honoured! And now I remember sometimes (ok, usually) I even thought I'm writing too shortly... :p
Btw, I'm now trying to translate some historically-based Bulgarian comixes to English, so be prepared for another history-attack (j/k). Though I'd like to ask for some opinions - in the Credits pages here (http://s9.photobucket.com/albums/a71/Nike_Raido/Tsarete%20na%20Bulgaria%20comix/), which font for the title ("Khan Asparukh") do you think fits best?

Angryminer's Tale
Chapter 29
When the night fell on Adrianople and the town became silent the mind's unrest became unbearable. I walked outside disguised by a cloak to not cause unnecessary rumours, and partially because I felt that I needed to regain my strenght, both physical and psychological before wanting to attract any more attention.
I left the town without anyone noticing, at least I think so. The city was a mess and the north gate was unprotected, but I still crossed the paths of many soldiers who were celebrating the victory, and many citizens who were mourning their loss. I felt both disgusted and repelled by everything I saw.
Walking outside in the moonlight my thoughts started to become more organized. I was thinking about what I had done. I summed up my actions and was struck by the results of my efforts. I caused the romans to destroy half of Adrianople, I even tried to keep them in the town for as long as possible dispite all, mostly human, costs, then ignored the civil losses in the town and continued to take the men I had left to the open field and sent them against a superior enemy, watching the hundret thousands slaughter each other and not for once thinking of demonic actions I was causing.
Thinking like this I walked around the paths in the woods north of the town, letting go of the feel for time and distance.
End of this chapter.
Urgh, I need to get used to writing again. That felt horrible.
Anyway, I plan to lead my character back to Adrianople before dawn, unless anyone else wants to disrupt my plans. ;)
So, is there still a discount on the beer for storytellers? Cheers!
Kuno's log - After the battle
After the battle I returned with Dobber to the citadel. As we entered the city I saw hundreds of dead bodies lying in the streets and many buildings were just smoking ruins. The feeling of triumph I just had experienced vanished and was replaced by guilt, grief and disgust. Many dark emotions passed my soul but I'm not able to verbalize them. I remembered some words I once read in a book about an ancient warlord: "There is only one thing worse than victory in battle, the defeat." Now I know what the author meant.
A doctor cleaned and tied my wounds. When he had finished I went to the council room as I expected the other leaders to be there but noone was around. I looked after them in their rooms but all were empty so I decided to walk around the citadel and asking the men where their leaders were. I heard that Angryminer had left by foot and that Hawk-Knight was out scouting, Traveller was probably somewhere in the city or on the battlefield again but noone could tell me where Dobber was. Then, after a few hours I heard some shoking news, one of Hawk's scout reported me that another even bigger enemy army was marching towards the town.
Those news put me in a rather depressing mood, wasn't there enough of bloodshed? Were we really all condemned to die? But then other thoughts came to my mind, there were other ways of winning a war than just more or less chaotic field battles. Many victories in history were won by tactical masterpeices, ambushes, bribe, negotiations or maybe even...treason. Many thoughts came to my mind and I needed somebody to discuss them so I went out searching either Traveller or Angryminer as they seemed to be the only commanders left in town.

If the discount still exists I take one too. ;)

Traveller's Log - The month of Chrven (July), the 11th day of the month, around noon
Real illusions
My squires said it's just one day after that great massacre, but I can't really feel the time anymore - it's all a blurry void now and I think it's not only for me. I can notice it among many others as well, it's almost literally written on their faces, I can see it in their movements, in their very existence. Especially among the commanders - the burden of leadership seems to take its toll especially on those who have commanded and lost more lives. Though, then again, how can there be "more lives" when even one seems to be enough...
But despite of all those illusions that cloud my mind, the grim reality drills its way into my mind without any mercy, tormenting me with even more hatred and anxiety. I can't stop thinking "Where is the Emperor of Constantinople now? Where is he, to see all this, the results of his actions!? Did he not have the courage to lead the army himself and fight and die with honour? Or he's ran away, like a cowardly dog, only to lick his wounds until he's ready to have yet another bite?" My despisal for that... creature, for I can not even call him a man anymore, grows further and further with every single thought. Especially after I heard that he might have already amassed a second army and is ready to sacrifice even more lives - be it ours or theirs. But the worst thing is the reality - I don't know what to do, I can't be certain about anything anymore. If the rumour about the new army is true, then I fear we might be doomed. I can't have much hopes on the Allied forces anymore - they've taken the greatest toll while their men were fighting for a cause which means little to most of them. And now even the prospect for a loot is slipping away. And I can't blame them - if I was on their place, I'd have my doubts about my position in the order of things in this world as well. Heck, I have them even now, although I have much more to fight for! And, yet, that brings me to another haunting question - surrender... If we are really hopelessly outnumbered again, one part of me wants to fight till the very end and is even ready to sacrifice not only myself, but everyone else as well. Hah, perhaps I'm not too far from the battle berserk-state yet, or maybe there's some Norse blood flowing in my veins from somewhere!.. But, on another hand, the other side of me is tired of all this bloodshed and doesn't want to waste any more human lives, even if that would mean admitting defeat... Hmm, defeat... even the word itself has that dark and grim sound of it - defeat...
Of course, then I remember that it's not my choice to make, I'm just a servant of the higher powers and authorities above me! Though that's not stopping anyone - since ages there have always been people amongst us who have fled to the Romans in exchange for some money, lands and fancy titles. And now when our own lives are at stake and our faith has been lost, there would be even more people to follow that example... Defeat is not a choice - admitting it is the only choice we are given...
But enough gloomy thoughts - I better pull myself together and find my tsar and the other commanders! Who knows, they might see things more brightly than me! Besides, as one great man had said - "Unity makes strength". And strength is what we need right now...
-------
Ok, I tried to kinda limit myself and don't fall into *too much* philosophical thoughts and make it shorter. It might look a bit too "empty", but I could have made it worse, so... :p
Edit: The first two books of the comics (http://s9.photobucket.com/albums/a71/Nike_Raido/The%20Rulers%20of%20Bulgaria%20comix/) ("Khan Asparukh" and "Khan Tervel") are ready. The cover is on BG cuz it's far too complicated to replace the titles, but I think that's not a big problem.

Kuno's Log
Just as I crossed the inner ward Traveller came the stairs down from the walls. I was happy to see him more or less unharmed as we did not meet yet since the dreadful battle.
I told him about the rumors I heard about another army and asked him about his/his tzars plans. He seemed to be surprised about the fact that even more enemy forces were around, but before he could answer Angryminer stepped in throug the citadel's door with a expression of depression on his face. As we were now all commanders left in Adrianople together we went to the council room for further discussions.
Many things were discussed in this night, but we could not really agree on our next steps. We simply didn't have enough information yet and without the other commanders we could not decide anyting really important. We agreed that we would meet again when Dobber and Hawk were back and until then the best we could do was reorganizing our men and find some proper quarters for them.
Back in my room I stood a long time in front of the window, looking out in the darkness and even if I first didn't want to accept it I was finally certain that my future was no longer with the men who became my friends. I just had to find the best moment to change sides...

Dobbers Log - Inner Turmoil
After leaving hawk_knight, I couldn't shake the thoughts provoked by his words. I feared for the safety of my son and I was also fearful for my comrades. I have to get the boy to safety, that is my primary concern, I cannot allow any other thoughts to cloud this objective. But somehow the thoughts keep returning, I cannot shake them. My friends are in grave danger and here I am riding away.
After a bit I was suddenly aware of a voice searching my attention. It was my son saying,"Father, father" attempting to get my attention. He sensed I was troubled and asked what would happen to my friends. Then he told me that I needed to go to them, that I should be at their side. He said that a Knight of Honor would never turn his back on his friends, not even for a cause such as this. What legacy was I to leave him, would it be one of honor or shame. He reminded me of hawk_knight's offer to see to his safety.
That settled it, how could I disappoint my son. The old man had a job to finish and some Arabian knights to take revenge upon. I turned the mount toward Adrianople and kicked it in the ribs and was off like the wind. Many thoughts of strategy were going through my head, I needed to see Ainvar and I needed to meet with the commanders. We needed to act quickly and weaken the forces headed our way. I had an idea of how we could lessen their numbers without a big risk to ourselves, but we needed to act quickly.
Kuno's log - Changing sides
It was probably an hour before dawn when the three men I choosed to come with me knocked at the door of my room. They were reliable men, the only three surviving of those I hired an eternity ago to join me on crusade. They were bound by an oath to serve me and this made me sure that noone of them would talk about my plan. There was only one thing left to do before we could leave. Silently I entered Angryminers room and woke him up.
First he didn't realise what was going on, but I had not alot of time to explain.
-"I will tell this only you, as I am certain that you will keep it secret and only reveal it to those who absolutely must know. I'm leaving the city tonight and if luck is with me I will have dinner in the tent of the Byzantine commander."
- "What?! You bastard are betraying us?"
- "No, I'm not. Listen, we have to know what is going on, what the enemy plans. We need to know this to get an advantage. We can not survive another chaotic battle like the last one was. And I'm the only one who can go. All of you are famous commanders who are welll known for their bravery and loyalty but I am just a man without an own coat of arms and without a history on the battlefields. They might have seen me in the last battle, but they probably don't know anything about me. This is something we can not assume about you or the other commanders as you're all important nobleman or famous warlords, you're faces and your actions are well known and I'm sure noone of you has the reputation to be untrustworthy. Who would ever expect that Sire Dobber or Lord Traveller, the Tzars famous commander would change sides?
I do not know yet how to give you information, I'll probably try with a pigeon but this might be too obvious.
Keep open your eyes and now farewell my friend. I hope god will allow us to meet again in this world."
...
Silently we went to the stables and took four horses, and then we left Adrianople. The guards were surely curious where I went, but they had no right to ask me. The sun was rising in the east and we were riding towards the enemy camp....
Uhm, Kuno, just out of historical "correction", I have to add that the Byzantines were especially benevolent to higher-ranking "traitors" and usually gave them fancy titles, money, lands and all that other good stuff to ensure they keep you well bought and tied to them (I mentioned it in my previous post). So, if you actually appear as a "VIP", you'd be better "bought". Though, of course, that might also bear the risk that more care would be taken of you, since you'd be used as an example of how they're winning etc., which might make it a bit harder to transfer messages even with enough loyal men. So both paths (VIP or commoner) have their pros and cons... ;)

Hawk's Log:
When dobber rode away with his son, i turned my attention towards the matter at hand. And that was either going to Adrianople and help defending the city against 2 armies at one time.
Or we can go for the bold plan and that is letting the byzantine army go alone against our forces. And that i will take my dragon squad and fly against the arabian forces and do everything in my power to slow them down inoff to give uss a survival time.
I had taken this up with my second in commands and the rest of the dragon squad.
The desicion was absolute for them and they yelled that where going to have arabian food tomorrow.
So with our minds up we took our things and headed towards the moutains to find some cover for a goodnight rest. As we and the dragaons will need our strength in the morning.
But before i left to make camp, i called up a dragonrider and asked him to stay behind here and take position nearby and look out for dobber.
If he had chosen to return as if he has then he will need fast transportation to Adrianople. As nothing can go faster then a dragon they say back in mithril.
Well now lets fly and make camp.

Traveller's Log - The month of Chrven (July), the night between the 11th and the 12th day of the month
Doubts and Plans
After I stumbled upon Kuno and the following discussion with him and Angry, I became even more desperate, for chaos seemed even greater to me and we couldn't reach a final conclusion. Not to mention my doubts of their will for further resistance (or mine, for that matter). But as soon as we left the council room, I set off to find my tsar and receive his orders and thoughts about the situation. I told him about the rumours of a newly-formed Romean army, but he had already received such reports from his scouts. It seems it's for real! I really didn't honestly expect the enemy could muster a new army so fast! Of course, it probably consists mainly of conscripted peasants with poor training and equipment, but it's still more than we have for now. And the main question is: Should we do the same? Should we gather all remaining men, young and old, everyone in Bulgaria, to counter the new threat in an "all or nothing" desperate fight? Or should we just give up and surrender, hoping the enemy will show mercy? No, the latter seems unacceptable to me now, when I still have some hope, a new hope. After a long and hard day and night of thinking about the bloody battle before and the possible ones in the future, tsar Samuil decided to rally the men (and the women) as fast as possible, while still having the advantage of enough equpment for all of them (including the scavenged one from the recent battle).
However, this wouldn't be enough - it would only lead to another clash and more and more bloodshed. But the tsar, the living saint-protector and like a father to all of us, had thought about it as well - he would use an old trick from our history - "deserters" and "traitors" will tell them the "news" of countless hordes of men and allies sallying from the north to deal with the Romans once and for all! Considering the Western reinforcements we received before this battle and the muster of all the Bulgarian men, these rumours will appear valid and frightening enough to put a hold to the enemy's advance for awhile. Hopefully enough time for more men to join us or at least to salvage enough equipment. And, most of all, enough time for the other rumours to have an effect, causing distrust among the Byzantine and Arab commanders and dissent among their soldiers, which would hopefully cause open conflicts (after all, even the Romans can't fully trust those cursed infidels) and eliminate both threats. With this plan now quickly put in action, as the tsar had already sent the first "deserters" and rumour-spreaders, I have regained some hope indeed.
Now the question that worries my mind is whether we should restore the defenses of Adrianople, preparing for a last stand here, or we should tear down all walls and be ready to retreat as soon as we'd have to. I will put this question before the other commanders, if I find them, as soon as the next morning, though the final word would of course be of my tsar.
And now, with a rather lightened heart, I will take my night's rest...
I guess we will not be needing my ideas for the opponents.
I was thinking of getting Ainvar and his Druids to call upon nature to give us some dry winds and using hawk's dragon squad to spread fire through the opposing camps by dropping it from the sky at night so the enemy does not know from whence the fire comes and thinks the gods have turned against them. The dry winds would serve to make the fires spread through the camp causing pandimonium and possible desrtion.
Why not? I think that would fit rather well, even perfect - it could indeed be used to show that "God/Allah is paying judgement to the Byzantines/Arabs for allying with the infidels" (working on both sides - Byz and Arabs) and create the conflicts I talked about, especially when their morale would be lowered by the rumours of large Allied armies etc.
Dobber's Log - Return to Adrianople
No sooner than we had turned toward the city, one of Commander hawk_knight's dragon riders swooped down and said he was to give us a ride to Adrianople. So the boy and I climbed aboard after slapping the horse across the rump to send him on his way. He would return to the city to where other horses were. Soon we would be back at headquarters. I must confess my deeds and ask forgiveness. But alas I did discover some valuable information. I must also share my ideas for spreading confusion, doubt and pandemonium throught the camps of the invaders.
Oh yes! 'Tis good to be writing again!

"And so the commanders gathered at the citadel to decide what they would do next, should they continue and bring Constantinople to the ground or should they force terms with the Emperor himself? Surely must of the roman army had been destroyed, but the walls of the great city promise a long siege, and without control of the seas Constantinople would most likely never..." Someone laughs interrupting the professor.
"fall.." The professor said while raising his eye is search of the disturbing voice. "Is there anything amusing you would like to share Mr. Bonaparte"
"No sir" the young student answered "is just that why would the emperor give in the allied commander's terms? He could very well sit in his city and wait for the enemy to starve, while he safely receives supplies by sea."
"Ah," the professor replied with a smile, "but you should remember that in war like in everything else the best possible answers are almost always the simple ones. If you would let me continue you shall see the importance of not only controlling the field of battle with the sword and numbers, but with the information you and your enemy receive. Spies are a strong weapon if used correctly."
The class was quite again, the professor continued with his history lesson of how the commanders had used spies to fool the Emperor into terms. The young man's eye sparkled with enthusiasm and desires of glory, a fire of ever growing hunger of conquest and power burned within them..
Am studying in a University so I must say I miss that rare item...some might call it time.
That's a good one. I'm at my second week now and already completely understand what you mean...
btw, can someone of the storytellers give me a brief overview how many troops/armies are there now and how they are approx. disturbed? I somehow got confused....
I think it's all a very big post-battle mess now (especially inside the story) and we haven't decided how much we (and the Byz-Arabs) have lost.

A beer for everyone! Worldshift is coming in Bulgaria. I will see you in game in about 10 days.
Wish me luck on my physics exam tomorrow.
Have fun with the game! Unfortunately, you will not be seeing me in the game.
And I finally finished the lab report, but by the time I did classtime was 10 minutes away and I was 40 minutes away from class and report is due at start of classtime. So, I sen the professor an email stating I am running late but here is my lab report attached to the email and I will bring in the hard copy when I arrive at class. Although hard copy was not necessary, because she had told us we could email them to her.
'Tis time for some shut eye 3 hours sleep in the past 42 just don't cut it anymore!
You're going to the university too, Dobber?

Ouch, and I thought that having to read 2 chapters per week(one for the textbook, one for a complementary book of which I have to write an analysis), Then writing a summaries of said chapters, then take 2 quizzes every week, and then having a test every 2 weeks on 2 chapters of the textbook, plus whatever homework he decides to throw into the mix, for only my intro to psychology class was too much work.
At least the professor makes the class fun and enjoyable, unlike my practical nutrition professor, which makes half the class fall to sleep with his low tone voice. :crushed:
Ahh college, fun stuff. :D

Well, guess I now isolated from the rest of the gameverse by not active in messenger. Also in other-other verse. Use IRC!!!!1
Well, welcome back everyone! (and me!)

Yes, I have returned to become a teacher. Some people think I have lost my mind deciding at this stage of my life to enter the classroom as a teacher. I will be 56 years of age when I begin my new career. I am planning to teach 1st or 2nd grade. That could change as I start spending time in classrooms. I could decide I want to teach a certain subject, i.e. Math, and would have to move up to a higher grade level in order to do that. At one point I even considered teaching at the High School level and teaching either Math or Science, preferably the higher end Math and Science classes. But at the moment my course of study would prepare me to teach on any grade level K-8.
That's great. I don't think it it is mad to change your job at this age but it surely needs a lot of courage!:go:

Seems this place has died right out again :(
Hey, guys, I've finally finished translating those comics about 10 Bulgarian tsars and I've uploaded them here (http://s9.photobucket.com/albums/a71/Nike_Raido/Comix/EN/The%20Rulers%20of%20Bulgaria/). Right now a second series of comics is being released, about 10 Bulgarian voivodes (military commanders or rebel leaders), but I probably won't be translating them since even I don't find them all that interesting (though it seems the next week's one will be about a female rebel leader, woohoo). After that they're supposed to release 10 comics about Bulgarian folk tales and 10 about Thracian kings and if those are good, I might eventually translate them too. But so far I'm done with these (and especially proud with the 7th comics about Tsar Kaloyan - I've been translating its texts for a whole day and those French names sure proved strange to me)! ;)

I'll be on the story again in a couple of days. Right now I'm living in a hotel in milan, Italy, but I'm moving into an appartment on sunday. Once I have a roof above my head and I don't have to eat at McDonalds anymore I can get my head to some in-character thinking.
Ciao a tutti!
It has been a critical time at school with many assignments coming due and I still have another three weeks of preparations for a debate and two presentations. One environmental presentation and one education policy presentation and the debate is on teacher tenure. Oh I nearly forgot the philosophy of education essay and the critical thinking reaction peper.
Are you debating solo or are you part of a panel/team?
There are three of us going against two. One of their group switched to a different topic that needed a second debater.
Since I did not want to reply in the 2007 thread and the tavern is a bit quiet as of late --
Happy new year to all of you! May 2009 bring more peace in the world and turn the bad start into a good follow-up.

I'm currently studying in italy, more precisely milan.
I'm on an exchange year since last semester and have one more left to go. At the moment I'm in germany, but next week I'll be in italy again.
Unfortunately I was only able to bring my laptop to italy so I can't do anything heavy on graphics. But I can still do some programming in my free time.
And, since bard tradition demands that stories are paid in beer I assume I'm entitled to one beverage right now.

Furthermore, there is a RLE viewer and converter in development by a friend of mine. It can read many of them already and converting from RLE works in order. Coming up is the feature that it is be able to create RLE's. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I would have thought that programmes around the globe would by now be internationally oriented (in English), but apparently this is not the case in f.i. the Romanic countries. This is one of the reasons I'm learning Spanish before going to Latinoamerica, one of the others being that it's a beautiful language (like Italian).

By the way, who is doing what during the holidays? Taking a vacation in your own country or spending the summer on the southern hemisphere in the cold? Camping, hitchhiking or hiking? Bringing money to the mediterrenean and the sun or enjoying the silence of Sweden or Canada?
As for myself, my summer story is rather boring - I'm staying where I am and continuing some unfinished business regarding studies. Maybe I'll take off a day here and there, but no big vacation planned. This is ok for me since I already went on a rather extensive study trip in South America, which felt like a good vacation as well as a valuable trip to gather some more information on the culture and language over there.

I don't know. I only remember KoH came out around the same time as RTW (which was a really bad timing) and since then there have been... what, 3 other major TW games (not counting the expanions)? (Of course, TW games are all alike, unlike KoH and WS, and CA is much bigger than BSS, so I'm not comparing them)
its been four years since Frujin posted the screens from the KoH2 wip, and it seems that there wont be any BSS games anymore

Very interesting hopefully the content takes some of the more successful items from KOH (ie stays close to historic reality, and has a open ended game play)
Playing around with games Mount and Blade Warband which seems to have many of the characteristics of KOH but with very good graphics and battleground immersion (but little historic relevance). Also trying out newly released Combat Mission Battle Normandy again very good graphics and battleground immersion and close to reality (but very limited story line). Neither combine all the items like KOH!
Anyway good luck to Frujin and tribe we need something breakthrough (like KOH was 10 years ago).
GogoT, please clean your PM folder
Aye, one of the main questions is (besides "what genre is it?") - is it historical-based/-influenced? But in any case - goodie-goodie, I wish you the best of luck and success with it! :)

And, aye, it's certainly quite fun relating in-game portraits with the people who use(d) them in the forums. @Nike, Kinect-driven means it is to be used with the Xbox 360 Kinect system. Kinect is a sensory device that reads your body movements. Your body is the controller.
