View Full Version : Unable to connect?
When ever I try to login to the game using my account that I created an my gamespy password, I get the error unable to connect to server, or disconnected while attempting. I am running the game as an administrator in Vista 64bit with my firewall turned off. Do I need to open any special ports on my router or anything?
I was also unable to connect at 2300-2311 EST (Z -500) 12 February 2008 with the same error.:bash:
Is the server down or could there be other issues causing the problem?

Guys, can you tell us more what exacly happens? Did you try to re-install the game? Check your inernet connection?

The problem is not beeing droped. The problem is we cant even join the Server(s).
As Prax said: By trying to connect a message-window pops up telling

Reinstalled the Game.
Gamespy-Account is ready.
WLAN works fine. To be sure there is no obstacle i shot down every kind of firewall, virusscan etc for some tests.
Even installed BSS's first patch (downloaded manual from a sepperate link by another player).
Nothing work :x

There was one reason for dropping players too often indentified and will be fixed today. (there will be update later today).

I've deactivated my firewall and reinstalled the game, I've even installed that gamespy program but both won't connect to the gamespy server.
It might be that my router is blocking gamespy, so if someone could post the port this game uses I might be able to get it to work.

I am unable to connect too, the exact message is:
"Problem encountered while trying to connect to server"
This happens after I click "New player" and enter my gamespy account details, also occurs when I try to "create a new gamespy profile". Anyone got any news on this?
Am behind a NAT gateway (no restrictions) no firewall is on on my pc, so there should be nothing stopping the traffic on the ports.
NOTE: Am running 0.8.3xxx still had the problem pre and post updates
You can avoid at least the part with the new player-button by creating a Gamespy-Account by your Browser and then just fill in a Nickname (from the GS-Account) and your Passpwort and Press Login. So i guess you will then have our problem that you wount get a connection to the servers :p
Just now I was able to connect and see some of the modes, servers, etc. I will be on later to actually begin testing the game.
Try connecting again after this new patch.

Still unable to connect today, is anyone else still having this problem?
It only seems to occur when creating a new Worldshift player, it can't access the gamespy account details, if I put a random username and password in then at least it says "invalid username and password" so is there some other way to make a worldshift account?
Will be trying it on a friends' pc later to see if this is a Vista only bug, if it is the case then *sigh*

I can make an account, but I cannot log into the game. I have opened up the ports in Windows Firewall and on my router. Does any of the new patches address this problem?

dont know if it this proble. Bevor i have this problem, i want to add a person to my friendlist, after this i have restartet my internetconnection (24h discconect from the provider) and now i get this msg.

GameSpy servers can have some problem. Try a bit later. Usually they do not cause problems for more than few minutes.

I am glad it is not only for me. I reinstalled the game and it is still there. I guess we'll have to wait for GameSpy to fix the servers.

I too am still unable to connect. I haven't been able to connect since the beta started. It didn't show any updates, so I manually updated using the files on the forums, but didn't fix anything.
I am behind a Port-Restricted Cone NAT, and I am able to play every other game plenty fine. No firewall or anything else potentially blocking the game from connecting.
If it makes any difference, I have the game installed on drive E:
At the moment I get a "An unknown online error occurred" error message, while the game is connecting to the online service. Yesterday evening it was working fine (at least before I installed the latest patch, but I haven't tried after).

It worked with last patch yesterday, now I am experiencing same error as you. GameSpy server down...

exactly contained, but it didnt fix problem from page one of this thread.

For the people with peerguardian who have the "cannot connect to the server message". Try to disable peerguardian.
The problem is not beeing droped. The problem is we cant even join the Server(s).

I just heard about the game and after installing it and attempting to login I get the error message that everyone has been talking about, unable to connect. Disabling firewall doesn't work, I am behind a wireless router...but seriously, is there any hope for those have not been able to connect in the past, I don't see any answers yet on how to fix this.

- Installed the game
- Crated profile
- Downloaded and installed updates (twice)
- Couldn't login any more
- Reinstalled the game
now i can't even download the updates o_O
all firewalls are disabled
Edit: Updates are back up, will see if login works after they are installed :)

I've got still at the old problem, but you are partially right...
Sometimes I'm getting stuck at the online service, but if I try a few more times it works and I'm getting stuck at the competition service.
Could any BSS dev try to solve this problem or at least post a message that they noticed the problem?

Initially I was stuck at "Connecting to online service" and it said something like "failed to connect or disconnected while connecting" but then I opened all those darn ports listed in the Technical FAQ.
Anyways, now I'm stuck at Connecting to the competition service like everyone else, it seems.

For me it get's to loading friends list and then times out.
And I was really looking forward to trying out this game...
I'm too lazy, but it might be helpful if someone contacted Gamespy regarding this issue, as it's quite possibly a problem with their servers.

Few hours ago I noticed a thread in the relicnews forum - some ppl were experiencing severe lag while playing dow and gamespy was to blame . Guess it's something global
thats why relic changed to quazal and used that instead of gamespy.
Sorry for the inconvenience.. we are trying to identify the issues. Seems not to be on our side thou.

It's still off.
I can connect to the game service and cd authentication smoothly even loading profiles and friends list. But as soon as the game is trying to connect to the competition service it still says "Error trying to login" .

This my sound stupid but have you tried to restart the game - like exiting ,then entering again? Once I had that problem and it fixed itself with a restart
I don't know about others, but I have restarted my game between logins to no avail.

I don't know what you're thinking of the majority of all the beta players, but since the login isn't working for almost a day now I think it is likely that the very very most ppl with the login error closed the game at some point by now... no offence.:go:

For the sake of science I decided to log off and try to log in again - and got an error at "Connecting the competition service"

ewwwww gamespy they are the same guys that fail with crysis logins. every time i reinstall the game i have to create a new account to play online. I have had nothing but bad experiences with game spy find an alternate route if possible.
I just Dled the game last night and havent been able to login it appears from the forums that this is a common issue.

hey ppl, just found something weird. when i was playing eve online, i started up worldshift in the background, and it worked.
but the friend with who i was going to play couldn't log in. BUT when he started up eve online and tried again, all worked fine. (he didnt even log in to eve!)

God.. Whats up with Gamespy?.. I think it might help if they switch the server from gamespy to something else if gamespy is continuing to screw things up. Quite bad business for Worldshift, plus its an awesome and cool game.
We asked them to check and fix. Still no ETA for the fix on their side :(

It seems that this login issue still hasn't been resolved. I'm getting time outs on loading the friends list.
Frujin, has there been any updates yet from Gamespy? Will Gamespy also be handling the hosting after the game is released?
i'm still having that problem.
Gamespy network seems not to be the best decision :bash:

unable to login for most of time in past week ... so much for GameSpy services ...
switch to STEAM's SteamWorks ... that at least work 99.9% of time
I was able to play yesterday all day after 4 login tries trying to connect to the competition service... Now my login chances are even smaller since I get time outs from loading the friends list.
45 times I tryed to login yet, 1 time I got past loading the friends list and then the other problem comes in and I get an error "trying to log in" at again connecting to the competition services....
I wanna play/test :(

hmm the full version will be unplayable. this game lives of its online mode and gamespy is the worst which can happen to an online game. sadly there's no hope that it will be betta in the full version

yeah sadly i know and own many good games (rts and other genres) which u play online via gamespy and there is almost noone online (since the beginning).
Gamespy is so borked that I have to completely disconnect my router and disable my firewalls (software and hardware) in order to play the game. Otherwise, my software firewall blocks the random port connections that GameSpy spams, and my hardware firewall starts blocking gamespy because of ICMP spamming etc. because it thinks it's being DoS attacked.
I know that this is probably not an ideal situation, but in the interest of seeing the game succeed, it really might be worth postponing the release date in order to investigate alternative online service providers.

there's a war going on in my mind if i should really buy this. This game incarnates something i have waited for so long though i know that in maybe 2 month maybe a bit longer, noone will still play it cause of gamespy. gamespy is cursed to suck players out of every game thrust me x D

I'm having the same problem too. If Gamespy remains the host for the servers after the game has gone gold I think I'll have to reconsider whether I want to get the game or not. I mean the most people online at the same time I've ever seen is like 30ish and were already having connectivity problems so I don't even want to imagine what would happen when hundreds/thousands of players try to connect. An online co-op oriented RTS is a concept I like very much but whats the point if you can't get online.
Edit: I guess I'm just a bit annoyed I can't log in again on the 4th day I've been trying the game and 3 out of 4 of those days logging in was like trying to win a lottery... Oh, and my experience's with Gamespy in the past weren't very positive either (I just happend to remember my Gamespy account else I prolly even wouldn't have given the game try)

download E.V.E online and u dont even have to log on. then go to world shift and it will let u play :)
I had the same problem but then I tried rebooting the computer and then I could get in again. I dunno if it works for everyone but at least it did for me.
How i understand that thing work from time to time that is realy BAD
and if jou are loged it works if not than that sysletm bugging
