This Closed Beta FAQ is no longer relevant. Please see this thread (http://forums.blackseastudios.com/showthread.php?t=540) instead.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. When I try to install the game it takes a lot of time
It is normal for the setup program to stay for up to 15 minutes on the "Building data" step of the install. Please, do not kill the setup process and wait patiently for it to finish normally

2. Every time I try to run the game under Vista 64 I get a Side-By-Side error
Open "redist" folder (where setup files are) and manually execute "vcredist_x86.exe". Reboot. The game should run fine now.

3. I receive file corrupted message when trying to apply an update
Try to manually download the update from the links at the bottom (see question #8).

4. Downloading update is stuck at 0% under Vista
Up to version 0.8.2 you have to run the game as administrator in order to download and apply an update. Right click on the game executable and select "Run as Admin". This is not necessary if you have version 0.8.3 or newer.

5. The game crashes immediately after being started
We have identified and fixed the problem. Coming with the next 0.8.4 update. For list with the manual updates - see bellow.

6. Screen goes blank and after a minute it gets back when game starts under Vista
There seems to be some conflict with some versions of the nVidia drivers under Vista. Please upgrade to latest version of the drivers. We are still investigating this issue.

7. I receive connection error when trying to login and I am behind a firewall
Most of the firewalls do not restrict outgoing connections so you should not need to adjust anything on the firewall. If the outgoing connections are disabled then you should manually open the following ports: 6667, 27900, 27901, 28910, 29900, 29901, 29910.

8. The in-game auto-update system is not working. How can I manually update the game?
Check your version of the game (displayed in the lower right part of the login screen) and download the appropriate update from the links bellow.

9. The game is in German. How to switch back to English?
This is a bit tricky. You need to edit your "settings.ini" file. Open Start Menu and select Run. Copy and paste this:

%APPDATA%\WorldShift\Cfg\Settings.ini

Press the Enter key. This should open the game's settings file in Notepad. Search the line that begins with "lang = " and delete it. Save the document and close Notepad. Next time you start the game it will ask you whether you want to enable German interface. Answer "No" this time and the game will run in English.

Better push that thread to the News Subforum. I guess most ppl wount check this area (in first instance) until their game works (like me). For my part i discovered it by chance.

Is it possible to make the game easier to move around. Like ... copy/paste.
I installed on XP patched up (because I was told that the installation is needed just for patches) restarted under Vista tried to run got missing d3d9_32.dll (or something like this) coppied it from windows XP and then got "cannot load PhysX engine"
I know the setup is unusual but I would like to point out that ALL my games run with this setup. This includes Company of Heroes, more than 15 Steam games (including Steam itself), Quake 2, Quake 3, Quake 4, Quake Wars, all Blizzard games.

Hey guys just a reminder also, you need to run the game under Admin in Vista for the patch to apply properly after download.

Sry i dont really understand what you want, but if you would have installed the game as intended you wouldn't had got either the problems with dll's nor those with the PhysX engine.

I don't want to have it installed as intended (i.e. copy dll's all around my windows folder). I want to be able to move the folder around and the game should still work (like all the games in the list do)

If you wanna do what I think (i.e. move the game from one folder to another), you might have to edit the registry....maybe

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Worldshift\Path

^^ that's prob the only thing you'll need to update

DISCLAIMER: Randomly changing your registry can negatively impact system performance, so make sure you do it right :P

I have never been able to simply move a game folder around from OS to OS or Drive to Drive and have it still work. I don't know what you do but I think it's alot more rare than you think it is. Why can't you just deal with installing it like a normal human? And if you need it in 2 places, install it in both places. If you can't since its a beta and you need a key, well, pick where you want it and deal with it :)

Oh, and back to the original post. This is just more proof that Vista is a worthless hunk of junk :crushed:. Jeebsus, almost all those problems are because of Vista. Thank god for XP! :D  :go:

Won't work. That is the path for patches. No good for running the game

Yes if your games are from EA... None of my games are from EA so this works for all my games:)
