Will there be some sort of playable beta or something that us folk will be able to play in the near future? If so, could I get an estimate on how long it may take?

I think it will be the first or second quarter of 2008. But the game may be released in that time so we may get a Christmas gift :p

Well, demo testing sound like a better idea. :D
It's always a good idea to show the public what can they really expect, and listen to their suggestions! :cool:
So, if you decide to give an Alpha/Beta/Demo version for testing - call me. :cool:
