this game has a lot of good points. the multiplayer online interface is very clean, the options for different kind of RTS games (single player, multiplayer, coop, versus, practice) are all nicely integrated into the reward system. the ability grid concept is great and will lead to many great hours of tinkering finding strategies.
my initial impression is that the special abilities are very overpowered. most battles start and end with a barrage of special area effect or high dmg attacks.
microing in this game, moving injured units back from the battle, repositioning and retargeting units, is not possible in this game because the battles finish much too fast.
the emphasis in worldshift is on using special abilities to win the battle and that reduces the skill level of many RTS fans who have developed the ability to micro indiivual units.
this ultra fast high damaging battle needs to be scaled back so players can actually make more tactical decisions besides which special abilities can be used.
that is my initial impression after about 5-6 deathmatch 1v1 games. so of which were with very experienced beta testers whom i spoke with after the game.
so keep up the good work and CHANGE the pace of the battles so that micro skilled RTS players can show what they can do.
