Hey Modding-Guys =)

At the moment I'm working on a North-Africa scenario. I hope, elvian don't hate me for this :P

So here are my first pictures of it. I didn't place any realms yet, but the map is ready.

How did you make the base map?

Jee Im back again xD and go on building my Africa Map

So to your (old) question: I just copied from the original base-file...just try it out...

And I have a problem...

Its still the same problem as before. I cant create a politicl view...it still look crazy!
http://img377.imageshack.us/my.php?image=unbenanntkd2.jpg

I actually saved my base-file with the SAME propertiesas the original base-file but the problem just doesnt disapper. I got to say: the original base-file is about 3 MB, but my one is 5 MB...isnt it really strange?

I have the same properties and my realm.bmp and old_real.bmp are as bg as the original files. Plz help me.. =)

I'm shure elbvain can help you with this. He suceeded to make a new base.bmp for his middle east mod. Just ask him.

PS: I'm interested in the answer, too. ;)

He send me a PM with...kind of tutorial...but that didnt work. Maybe other guys know an answer?

If Elvain (or Laudan, or Doux) don't know, then nobody knows (except Frujin and Co., but they won't say anything, so...).

Could you just sent us this tutorial ? Maybe we can help you.

Alright thas th tutorial, Elvian endto me:

Hi, it was quite complicated process and maybe you will find easier way to make it. Sadly I don't have much time now so I will at least write how to start:

1) when you test the map you're making, you have minimap there (or when you work in the editor you can see use this minimap) - take a screenshot of it and "extract" just the minimap.
(the best is to delete all castles from the map and take screenie of the minimap without any cities)

2) Then stretch theminimap to 1400x1400 pixels image

3) Then play with the resolution and colours so you get a map with just 2 colors - 1 for seas and 1 for land
- save this bi-chromatic map as base (and flip it verticaly of course)

4) For realms.bmp and realms.old.bmp use a minimap with castles (that will make it easier to draw borders)
do the same like with minimap for base.bmp but leave there more colours (to have the castles visible)

5) both files have to be saved in a way to have absolutely same properties as original .bmp files (base, realms and realms.old)

6) save these 3 into maps/europe/politmap and run the game

7) move marshals on the map and on minimap (max zoom)you can generaly find the borders - put those points in realms.bmp (and realms.old)

oh, I realized that in fact you don't need the base.bmp and realms.bmp , you just can do it with the minimap..

so just have a minimap and some map-image that have castles in (as large as realms.bmp) and put the borders in this map....

and finaly copy teh colors of provinces from original realms.bmp to the one you just created. 1 color for just 1 province! (so this describes only to make political map for a map with up to 168 provinces)

I'm still de-bugging the details....

(maybe quote this post please I really have to go to work now)

to the third step : Have you mirrored it (is very important !)

Bellum
15 Feb 2009, 17:24
lol no...look at my base-map ( first site of that thread )

I made a base-file that looks quite similar to the original base.

Bulgaroktonos
15 Feb 2009, 17:29
I mean did you mirrored it after you flipped it vertically because the game will do silly things if you do not.

Bellum
15 Feb 2009, 17:38
wha do u mean with mirrored? I just flipped it vertical so whx mirror it then?

Bulgaroktonos
15 Feb 2009, 17:41
omg

you have to mirror every image/ icon or whatever because the game will re-flip and re-mirror it so if you want that an image is shown correctly you have to do that (simply with microsoft paint or whatever)

Bellum
15 Feb 2009, 17:48
lol i rly dont know wat the hack you are talking about....why should I mirror it vertical and the mirror it again? Seems to be senseless

Bulgaroktonos
15 Feb 2009, 17:53
ouch

did you ever created a new building or did you ever read the 'what you can edit and where' thread ? The game itself flips every image vertically. And it mirrors it horizontal ,too. Don't know why. But if you want an image to be shown correctly just mirror it.

Bellum
15 Feb 2009, 18:09
lol I'm a modder and made new Buildings, minimaps, etc..

And it isnt true, that you need to mirror the images horizontal too. Vertical is enough

Bulgaroktonos
15 Feb 2009, 18:14
Maybe we have different versions of the game ? I HAVE to do it or the game won't show it correctly.

Bellum
15 Feb 2009, 18:20
In my game you just need to mirror your own pictures vertical...and if you look at Elvians Middle East Scenario and its base-file it is only vertical mirrored too ;)

Some versions of bmp state the content left top to right bottom and some the other way around. Microsoft paint switched the behaviour several times during it's development.

That's why my mapcreator loads png files. bmps are just a huge mess. :)

Edit: Actually I'd like to attempt generating the realms.bmp files with my mapcreator. I'll look into that next month I think.

Alright that message goes especially to Elvian:

Now my base, realms and realms.old have the exactly same properties as your files from your Middle East Scenario...but theycrazy political view is still existing...

That is impossibe, isnt it? There can't be a problem, or?

Bellum
15 Feb 2009, 18:52
Ok now I solved my problem partly...

I can use a base-map with 2 colors ( 1 for land, 1 for water ) and save it with the same properties, as Elvians map ( 24 dpi, 16 bit )...

But I still can't use a base-map, as I made it. I tried all different settings from 16 up to 32 bit and 24 dpi & 25 dpi but it dont work =( I dont know any answer to that problem

Now I found smething out: Your base-file must have 16 bit, otherwise it wont fit into the political view. But I still dont understand, why the original base.bmp has 32 bit... the color problem still exist

hi, haven't been online yesterday.

I can only assume, that it is absolutely not necessary to flip the files horizontaly. Vertical flip is enough :-)

Haven't seen your files, but there are several issues that might cause the problem:
1) coordinates of provinces don't correspond with their location on the map (realms.bmp)
2) colours in realms.bmp - does every realm have own different colour?

At the momennt I can't think of any other and I have to do other work, but if these 2 are not the problem, could you send me the files? I will check them out and try if I can find the solution tonight.

Hey elvian. I dont think, there is any problem with my files, maybe just the bit and dpi. As I just said, if I create a base-file with only 2 colors, everything works fine.

I rly cant see the problem =(

I think this is resolution problem. Another problem I had was: changed file properties and it worked, but after I did little edit (in WIndows Paint) it got all messed again. I realized I have to change the properties carefully after each edit. True is that the outcome always looked little better than this.

You say with 2 colours it is ok, right?

PS: let me at least look at the BMP's - I mean I want to see the shapes at least (if you don't want to send them)

Bellum

Yeah 2 colors right.

loL one moment, I'll send you my files...or I'll try xD

Got a new problem over here....juhu :bash:

http://img24.imageshack.us/my.php?image=problemyl3.jpg

Its quite hard to explain...I just asked elvian, and he said, I must edit my realms.bmp. I did so...like discribed in the Middle East Scenario Thread...gave my realms exact the same colors as the original realms. There are no color-changes after saving the file...I really can't see any fault of mine =(

And here is another nice problem...maybe it relates to the first problem too...

http://img19.imageshack.us/my.php?image=65807338va4.jpg

I edited the namepos.in2 ( and also the wcenter.dat ) but there are no changes...help me =(

Just a little question again:

Why the political view we create is manipulated in KoH.

What I mean is, that the colors always change...and its much darker as it really is? KoH seems to darken the base.bmp and change the colors. If you e.g. create a political view with 2 colors ( black for sea & white for land ), the land got an other color. It is turquoise.

Anyone know an answer?

Bulgaroktonos
27 Feb 2009, 21:55
No one but elvain and wangyushi ever did this so certainly you have to ask them.

Bellum
27 Feb 2009, 22:12
I just talked with elvian about political view...but if you look at his MOD (Middle East) you'll see, that his political view is also very dark...and not so nice as the original view =(

Bulgaroktonos
27 Feb 2009, 23:31
Maybe you could use some color a little bit brighter as pergament-color and let the game turn it to the right color ?

Bellum
28 Feb 2009, 00:24
Hehe yeah I thought about sth like tha too, but the problem is, that there is no color, which if brighter than white :go:

So noone knows an answer to all that colorchanges?

elvain
28 Feb 2009, 01:04
I certainly don't know why is that. In the Middle East mod i use beige colour for the base and the result doesn't seem too bad to me
http://img100.imageshack.us/img100/3289/politmapbyzantia.jpg

You just should not use white colour as the base. I'm still testing other colours and the best one will be used. This one seems more or less ok, though it could be better

buut at least it is possible to distinct relations

Bellum
28 Feb 2009, 10:22
Yeah actually it's not so bad, that the political view is darken.

But I would be so happy, if we could use a base like the europe-map without colorchanges =( Maybe Frujin knows an answer
