View Full Version : Keeping strats a secret?

I just picked up Worldshift two days ago. So I'm in the process of learning the ropes. I ran into Garand and he brushed me up on a lot of things I didn't know.

At any rate I'm playing some DM's, and I happen to run into Aeto. I have been using the humans trying to figure out strats and get a good understanding of their skills and such. My first game against Aeto, he just owned me. He was using the tribe and im using the humans. I que back up for another DM and got Aeto again, which I ended up going against him about 4 times or so (common because of the few players online) and got rocked each time. Anyway I just couldn't do anything to take him down, so I asked Aeto if he had ever lost to a human player. Aeto replies "Yes, I have, very good ones." So I ask, hey what strats do they use? Aeto replies with "I won't say, they work very hard to beat me." I couldn't help but laugh, is someone literally keeping strat secrets in a beta? :D

I mean this guy seriously didn't wanna tell me strats in fear that I would start owning him aswell. I guess I can understand keeping strats a secret in a full release of a game but in a BETA? lol This is ridiculous, I told him, this is a beta, things need to be tested. To keep things hidden doesn't help the game.

Anyway I just want to get this out there. As a beta community we need to fully test everything in this game before release. If you have some "super awsome sick" tactic, don't keep it hidden, there may be OP issues that need to be looked at.

Aeto is the type of beta tester that you don't want to be like. On the other hand Garand was very helpful pointing everything out, which is what the community should be doing. :go:

Heh feeling weird. W/E
Well strats... hm that is quite hard. It is very dependant on the player you are facing-against tribes that rely on spellcasters photon nades do wonders in draining mana . If you are feeling lucky (and have artifacts that increase the stun) you can try a bunch of constructors and mass-barrage his spellcasters and field leader (they tend to pack them closely to eachother). 2 assasins focused on single character are a good option too. Massed troopers will get you nowhere - try combined arms . Assault bots + hellfires and some troopers to fill the gap, judge ,assasins or constructors - medic is not a must ,since you won't have many organing stuff to heal. Try to take out his high priest or at least sorcerers first - and do not bunch together your forces or you will be frozen, chilled and then burnt -and dead. If he goes for brute spam it's pretty much gg ,unless you lure him near a control tower with defences. Then use 2 assasins or constructors to stun/kill whatever you can - best choice would be the heroes . If noone is healing them ,massed barrages will take down brutes or at least hurt them enough to be killed afterwards. Use judges to drain mana . And you need alot of luck and good artifacts

stylesjl, A beta is still a game. Go play My Little Pony if you want a game with no competition involved. Why would you expect a player to tell you his/her vulnerabilities and weaknesses when, as you pointed out, you'll likely be playing them quite a bit more in the future?

This is ridiculous, I told him, this is a beta, things need to be tested.
I completely agree that testing is exactly what betas are about, so go test some new combinations yourself. Victory is not handed out on a silver platter. Use the forums to discuss strategies and such -- asking someone to help you beat them when they're online to play isn't the best way to go about developing your strats and tactics.

Aeto is the type of beta tester that you don't want to be like.
Actually, if you'll read through the message board, Aeto is an active member who participates in discussions about how to improve the game. I've found his comments to be insightful and helpful, unlike unwarranted flame posts. That is all.

No a beta is a game in a testing stage, it is not a finished product. I do want competition, but you don't come to a beta looking for competition. Nice sad attempt at some kind of flame. The whole premis behind my post is that a beta is here to be tested. That can not be acomplished by people keeping things secret, that hruts the game. So if he did tell me the strat and I kept beating him with it, then obviously theres a flaw in the balance system and you bring that to the devs attention.

You state here that you agree that betas are about testing, when in your first resposne you talked about competition. Don't contradict yourself, which is it? Victory isn't handed on a silver platter? Again, you tool, a beta isn't about Victory or Defeat, it's solely about testing. I guess someone needs a lesson on beta 101. You should not log into Worldshift Beta, with the goal being to beat everyone. Once the game is released, then thats when you try combos out yourself and try to win. One shouldn't have to go off on their own figuring out combos and checking whats OP, thats why they invite numerous people to a beta, your suppsoe to work together as a team and share all information.

I'm not cocnerned with what he has contributed in the past. My main issue was with how he handled the strat thing with me. Now yes he has taken part in some discussions and so will I, I'm new here, and look. Although when someone does what he did to me, you gotta ask yourself, how true really are his statements? Players of this type come here to win and keep most balance issues on the down low, becuase at the end of the day they could care less about the state of the game. What matters to them is as long as they acheive "Victory." Just look at your replies to me.. your defensive and your main premis is comeptition and victory, clearly your in retail mode, during the beta phase of a game.

It's not an unwarranted flame, you can't just let thigns like this go by. I want it known that there are players out there holding back information. I could careless what he posts about, if he isn't being fully honest, then he is useless to the progress of this beta. Posts like this are needed as a wakeup call, because people like you come into games and take it serious from day 1. You started off by flaming me for competition and wanting victory handed to me. Reread my posts and maybe then you'll actually comprehend what I'm getting at it.

Thats all.
