I've been struggling since I've learnt the basics to the game to find a setup that I'm happy with. My current setup I play around with are:

2x Shaman
1x Sorcerer
1x Stone Ghost

3x Warriors
3x Brutes

Now with this setup I play I tend to find I'm quite useful in a group but I cannot kick out enough damage. I've tried using Ancient Shades but I was unhappy with their damage and Howling Horrors are sub-par compared to a Commander tank.

Is there something I'm missing or is this the army I've signed up to play?

I would be intrested in seeing other peoples setups, considering I've only played with Humans and Cult players since I've started.

Well, the setup I use most often is:

3-4 Shamans
0-1 Stone Ghost
4x Brute

Obviously it is a tank-and-heal-and-purify build, enemies are more likely to die of old age rather than your damage, but that's what the teammates are for. On the other hand, with this setup all my teammates have to do is to deal damage, I take care of everything else (well, most of the time).
Stone ghost is used mostly to provide psi, can be replaced with 4th Shaman if your teammates have Power Overseer or another Stone Ghost (and they are kind enough to position them near your Shamans).

Another common build is:

2-3 Sorcerers
1-2 Stone Ghosts
3 Howling Horrors

This one is probably better than mine, as it provides enough tanking and healing for most places, combined with ok-ish damage output.
Yes, Lord Commander is better tank than 1 Howling Horror, but when you have 3 of them and micro them well you can achive similar results (depends on the location you're playing), sometimes even better.
The only problem with this build is that it requires quite a lot of micro and I am usually too lazy for that :)

I have seen 4x Sorcerer and 4x Ancient Shade perform really well too. It is true that Shades are not that impressive when fighting your way towards the boss, but against high-armored targets like bosses they do work well and after all it is boss fights that matter. Of course, this setup assumes someone else will make sure your units take no damage.

Warriors are ok too, with the right specializations, assuming you keep them at max range and out of harm's way.

Guardians are often tricky to use because their instinct of self-preservation seems to be wiped out by the Plague, but they are probably the ones who provide the best burst damage output (with illusions). I have seen them perform really nice in Corrupted Fields, where you fight with officers only, just make sure one of your Guardians won't get mind controlled with enough psi and Illusions not on cooldown :)

I am also really curious to see what other people use / think.

I like the idea of 3 Shamans, 1 Stone Ghost and 4 Brutes. I will most likely try that out once I get the last 10 Xenoshards to re-spend my points into brutes and 15% hitpoints across all units. I was tempted to try this before but I thought having just melee troops could prove harder in places then what it's worth, but I will try it.

I tried 2x Howling Horrors in the past but found them pretty void outside of boss-fights that they can tank and the fact that Shamans cannot heal them really wasn't a feature I liked. The Stone Ghost healing even with 2 just wasn't enough for them most of the time.

As for Guardians I totally agree, they're far too frustrating to be useful in most-case scenarios. They were perticularly useful in Corrupted Fields.

The Tribes army is great for support, from what I have seen at least and I intend to keep following that route. Maybe I should be looking at a min-max build rather then a hybrid.

Anymore feedback from other peoples builds and experiences would be good to read.
